Thank you for watching! I made one of the most (in)famous traditional Japanese foods; natto! I used to hate the flavor and texture and all, but I somehow overcame and I eat it almost everyday. It is super healthy and I've been wanting to make it at home so I gave it a try.

What does it actually taste like? I always hear people talking about this like it's super disgusting but is that just the visual? Is the texture as slimy as it looks? I'm trying to figure out what aspects of this are bad because if it tastes OK/good I think I could try it. It is supposed to be extremely healthy.

@Lucysmom26 It tastes like beans, soy sauce and wasabi; together, they make a pretty good combination. People who are new to natto tend to struggle with the texture, which is slimy and chewy. However, many people, including myself, genuinely enjoy natto on top of rice or in miso soup.

I know KZfaq comments isn’t the place for things like this but dang, this video is bittersweet for me. I started watching Jun’s videos years ago after thinking Nagi looked a lot like mine and my wife’s orange and white tabby cat in a thumbnail, and then just loving the videos. We had to put him down two days ago after he got very sick, so man this was a mix of emotions. Many long years to Nagi and friends ❤️

Best wishes to you and your wife, friend. A few years back I sent my little orange tabby, Pasta, to the great kitty playground in the sky and it still hurts. But, since then I've been forcefully chosen by two new cats. 3 years ago by a tortie that just wandered into my house one day and wouldn't leave despite my attempts to leave notes for other owners, send her back out, etc. Now she's sleeping in her bed next to me in my home office, where we spend at least 8 hours every single day side-by-side. And, my second and more recent addition: a 3-legged kitten my vet friend found and healed despite that "we usually would put a kitten in this condition down, but I thought this one had a chance." I said I'd take her, and fast forward 5 or 6 months and she's asleep on my lap while I type this and very, very attached myself and her sister--who I didn't think would take so quickly, but here we are. I miss Pasta every day and never thought I'd have another pet after her because I was afraid it would hurt too much, y'know? But, with my new little ladies--Shoyu and Dashi--I see how happy we make each other and it brings me so much comfort to know that every day they wake up and go to sleep we bring each other a full day of happiness, comfort, and love. And in turn it reminds me that I did that for Pasta, too. Every single day of her life, from beginning to the very end, she knew there was that same creature by her side that loved her unconditionally. How many creatures in the entirety of the universe get to experience that? I'd venture your tabby lived a life quite the same. Well done to us then, I say. :)

I was struck with the size of the harvester - less than 1/3 the size of the equivalent machines in the U.S. Since land is at such a premium in Japan, I suspect the size of the fields are equally smaller, and the amount of space needed to store the machines is an issue. I also loved the rice-husking vending machine. Again, not something you would ever see in the U.S. 🤣🥰

I am so delighted at how brave Nagi is these days!! Look at him enjoying a bike ride like Haku! Hopefully you guys are really proud of him and of yourselves helping him get to where he is now. I'm sure the process has been long and difficult but I see the results and they are beautiful. Edit after finishing the video: Your work with Poki is also showing through so much! I remember when his energy was just NOT appropriate for a video on this channel. Now he's sitting politely and enjoying end cooking with Jun as the closer! From my perspective, this cat with major food security issues (which I know all too well from having a cat from the street with similar issues around food) has felt so safe in your care that he has been able to build up valuable trust that you will always give him the resources he is desperate for and more. Again I say, the results I see are beautiful and I hope you guys feel proud of your work.

You made me cry in the first 40 seconds Jun. Lycoris Radiata. The Japanese Spider Lily. We had them all over the place in my old town of Hooks in Texas. I looked forward to seeing them every year. They're my favorite flower because of how pretty they are and they signal the start of Autumn, my favorite time of year. I've been away from Texas for a few years now and seeing them made me very homesick. And no, I have no idea how or why a flower native to Japan ended up spread all over a tiny, rural town in Texas of all places much less how they managed to thrive so well.

This was such an interesting process to be able to see, especially live with how you filmed the fermenting process via time-lapse. I bought natto on a whim while in a local Asian grocery store near where I live in the United States and I had enjoyed it! It has become something I regularly eat! Thank you for showing that other beans could be used to make natto!
