Your videos are very interesting! I like the details you explain about various items! I am in Canada. I think grocery stores are busiest when people get done work and on weekends. I'll try to remember some of your questions. I don't think beef tongue is sold in my local stores, but I live in a smaller city, our selection is smaller. Potatoes are often sold in big 2.25-4.5 kg bags for $5 to $10 Canadian (depending on type). Carrots are also sold in big bags. I think our grocery stores sell items in larger quantities because most people are driving to grocery stores and buying enough food for a week or more. Our shopping carts are much bigger and have a lower shelf to carry large items. People use the plastic hand baskets for picking up just a few items. I do not like the fat on pork either, I always cut it off before cooking.

Thanks for watching from Canada❤ I'm surprised that so many potatoes are sold. I can't cook that many potatoes. A week's worth of shopping seems like a lot. Don't forget to check out the next video!

I'd say the crowding depends on the time of month & weather vs time of day where I live now. I used to live in FL and I noticed stores would be PACKED on the 1st and the 15th of the month considering I lived in a military town & lower income area so both food stamps would renew and military would get paid around that time. Now that I live in Massachusetts I've noticed holidays and nice weather days are when I see the stores exceptionally packed. I also notice that morning-early afternoon seem to be busy while afternoon past 5pm is kind of slow

I live in the States (East Coast) its interesting that Japan sells everything in in 1, 2 or 3 a lot.We can get a lot of the things popular in Japan here. Prices are higher in your country, but our prices have gone up since Covid, but they are coming back done. Fun video to watch thank you!

Hi Yuki, in France due to inflation the prices have risen, but fruits and vegetables prices are still lower than in Japan. As for meat we have lots of different meats even beef tongue (it's even served at school lunch) but I hate it. We also have a seafood sections and some grocery stores have maki and sushi. But as for Asian food it's quite pricey over here. I almost forgot, we do have a quite big range of cheese of course

I live in Brazil (south, RS state) and from what I observed the prices for produce and meat is cheaper here than in Japan. Though tofu, rice ball and sushi are cheaper in Japan. Everything else was around the same price. The grocery store itself doesn’t seem too different, though it’s common to most of them here to have a bakery, butcher and delicatessen sections inside.

Local produce seems to be rather cheap, exotic fruits and vegetables are pretty much the same as in Germany. Portion sizes for everything seem much smaller. Maybe due to space issue in houses to store the food? Also japanese grocery stores seem to have much more ready-made foods. In Germany you'll usually find an isle with freshly baked stuff but there isn't nearly as much variety as in Japan in terms of prepackaged foods. I'd prefer Japanese grocery stores when it comes to that. In Germany your choice is very limited. Maybe because Germans have more leisure time to cook? But perhaps that's just a cliche. I think looking at grocery stores from different countries can tell you a lot about their culture.

4:43 - that one pack of sushi would run anywhere from $7.99 USD to $10+ depending on which grocery store you're in. Ugh... American pricing makes me so mad. At this point it isn't inflation anymore but price gauging....
@yetson

I'm envious of japan. The seafood and meat prices are very reasonable. Just to give you an idea of how prices compare in Australia 0:42 - 1KG of Bananas cost $1.99 AUD per KG (¥189). When not in season the price doubles up to $4 per kilo! 1:20 - Silken Tofu cost $2.30 AUD for 300gr box ( ¥219). 1:55 - 1KG of ordinary carrots $1.20 (¥114). If it's organic / fancy carrot then it's 4 times the price. 2:12 - 1KG of Potatoes (washed) $3.75 (¥357) 3:05 - Fatty pork loin per KG $19 / ¥1,090 3:42 - 12 eggs (caged) $4.60 AUD / ¥440, but one dozen free range eggs is $7.20 / ¥686. It can sometimes be $10 depending on brand 4:16 - Onigiri : some Asian stores sell for as much as $2.50 / ¥238, and the only flavour is tuna mayo 4:35 - That pack of sushi in your hand would easily cost $13~$14 AUD or ¥1,200. We do not sell sushi in our grocery stores here so you would have to purchase from a restaurant or food stall. 5:07 - Creme Caramel Pudding 2 x 150g sold here is $3.75 or ¥357 6:12 - The Matcha Kit Kat would have to be imported from Japan so the price is 3x more expensive. 7:00 a 100gram bag of potato chips is $3.60 or ¥343 8:13 Green tea bags, 20 serves (locally made) $6 AUD / ¥572. Ordinary Lipton black tea is $6 too but you get 100 serves.

Taiwanese bananas are firm, not sweet, dry, bland, not fragrant.//I'm surprised the items are cheap. Japanese items in other countries are expensive. That 398 yen sushi is impossibly cheap. Sushi is very expensive in Singapore. A nice row like that is above US$10 (Singapore Japanese supermarkets) or US$5 (Bangkok & not made by Japanese chef in supermarket). That Kitkat is going to be very expensive in Singapore & Bangkok.//No wonder people keep saying Japan is livable low cost. If accomodation cost is low + cheap groceries = cheaper than living in Singapore. Surprising.
