The intricately carved hanko has been long associated with authenticity in Japan, but as ready-made alternatives and digital versions emerge, is it still relevant? CNA’s Michiyo Ishida reports.

I have three hanko seals. Most Japanese and foreign nationals living and working in Japan need at least 2 (ppl who own their own small businesses need more). The jitsu-in (実印), which is used for signing official contracts and other important docs, is registered in your local municipal office. The ginko-in (銀行印) is used for opening bank accounts and for processing large transactions. The mitome-in (認印) is not registered anywhere and can be used for unofficial things like signing parcels, informal letters, internal company docs, etc. Thus, I use my mitome-in much more frequently compared to the others. They're actually pretty cool

I have my own hanko, it has my name and a Fox. It was for me a way to put on my own art or things.

Verification is a world problem. You apply for something and they ask for so many information then you are obliged to prove thats is you and treated like they dont know you. Now they even have this kyc bs but should be a double standard as the people should know more about the company.

Seals were actually first used in Mesopotamia around 3500 BC, but China has used them since about 1600 BC.

@@Shock_Treatment Seal stamps in Asia were independently invented and originated from China. And Japan (and the rest of asian) copies and adopts it. Your comment has absolutely nothing with what i said. Maybe think first before commenting.
