Let me explain why Indian audience is damn eager for this: In Hinduism, there are 4 Yugas (Eras). Satya Yuga (Golden Age) Treta Yuga (Silver Age) Dwapar Yuga (Copper Age) and Kali Yuga (Iron Age). The level of wickedness, badness and misery in world increases in every consecutive Yuga. As years pass, one Yug ends and another begins. Ramayan happened in Treta Yug. Mahabharat happened in Dwapar Yug. Currently we are in the Kali Yug (2024 AD). Now the interesting part, The Yugas aren't linear, they are in a circle like a clock, the end of Kali Yug would begin the Satya Yug. But as Satya Yuga is the holiest of all and Kaliyug the unholiest, the transition of these two Yugas won't be the same as the other pairs. When this happens, the Universe will face an entire wipe out and only the good souls will survive that will carry on the Satya Yuga once again. It is like a circle of life. What begins will end, and the end will bring a new beginning! There are more details of each Yuga, how they were, what were the timelines, how were the humans then, etc. Now, coming to the movie... You need to know that in these four Yugas, to maintain the balance and prove the victory of goodness vs evil (Dharma vs Adharma), Lord Vishnu, the Proprietor of the Universe incarnates in the mortal world for 10 times, called the 10 Avatars or Dashavatar. Avatar is an Indian word. [Dharma means righteousness and not religion here!]. I won't speak about all the Incarnations in detail here, but you guys must have heard about Shree Ram and Shree Krishn. They were the 7th and 8th Avatars of Lord Vishnu. Depending on necessities, He incarnated with different qualities and forms. In Treta Yug, Shree Ram established Dharma by defeating Ravan and establishing Ram Rajya, the rule of peace. In Dwapar Yug, Shree Krishn defeated Kans to protect his region, and his role in the Great Mahabharat to establish Dharm is known by you. Interestingly, till today, only 9 Avatars have been born and completed their goals. The 10th and last avatar of Lord Vishnu was prophecised to come at the end of Kali Yug to establish Dharm once again and this destruction will start the Satya Yuga once again. The name of this Avatar will be Kalki. Even the birthplace and names of parents are mentioned in the Holy books of Hinduism. This movie is based on the place, where Shambhapur will see the birth of Kalki (in the womb of Deepika). Amitabh Bachchan's character is of Ashwatthama, one of the 8 immortals of the world, who was cursed by Shree Krishn at the end of Mahabharat to be immortal and suffer. He and the other 7 Chiranjeevi (immortals) including Hanuman will pave the way for Kalki to reach his destination to defeat Kali, the demon. This movie has the backdrop of a very core subject which is close to us Indians and that's why, people will definitely appreciate it. I'll say a very interesting fact at the last: 1. It is believed that in Satya Yuga, good and evil were in different worlds, Devta (Demigods) in Devlok ans Asuras (demons) in Asurlok... 2. In Treta Yug, good and evil were in same world, Shree Ram and Ravan 3. In Dwapar Yug, good and evil were in the same family, Pandavas and Kauravas. 4. In Kali Yug, good and evil are in the same person, our own thoughts! THIS IS A VERY BIG LESSON I BELIEVE!

The kalki story is linked to the history fact that the last avatar of God Vishnu named kalki comes down to save earth and defeat kali its kalkipuranam i think The Amitabh Bachan character aswathamma is from mahabharata who will stay on earth for thousands of years as immortal to help kalki It's all about the knowledge of Indian hindu history from core the directors of our tollywood still keeping it alive😊❤ I think my fellow Indians will give some more information in comments or you can research it also

1) The city is Kashi it's in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh India, which is the Oldest and technically the 1st City of this world and going to be the last. 2) That opposite Pyramid shape thing is "Complex" there is no water left in the world except for Complex and it's beautiful from inside having trees and fountains and all. The main leader of Complex treats himself as a god is "Supreme Yaasin". 3) Kalki Avatar has not been born yet he's inside Deepika Padukone's womb, her name is Sau 80 (in Mahabharat mother of Kalki is Saumati and Lord Vishnu). 4) Prabhas as Bhairava is a Bounty hunter and he needs 1 million Units to live in Complex (Only Rich people can live in Complex) also Unit is the Measuring unit for the source of power to run the Nano technology they are using to run the weapons and the world (Unit is like Money for them). 5) As per Mahabharat we are in Kaliyuga and this movie is the end of this world Kaliyuga and a new world will start from here as Satayuga. 6) Ashwathama cursed by Lord Krishna and snatched his stone (Power source) during Mahabharat because he tried to unalive a pregnant women but in this movie by the end of Kaliyuga he got his stone back and he will save Sau 80 because she is going to give birth Kalki. 7) Bujji the A.I informed Prabhas aka Bhairava that a 5 star bounty of 1 Million units can be received whomsoever catches Sau 80. So, Prabhas tries to catch Sau 80 to receive bounty to live in Complex and Ashwathama is trying to save Sau 80 and Kalki in her womb./

Someone else has gave detailed explaination of Kalki , but Ashwatthama was crused By Krishna as an immortal as at the end of Mahabharat war Ashwatthama shoots Brahmastra (an powerful weapon in hinduism) to kill grandchildren of Arjuna and he shoots arrow at Uttara who was pregnant, this since is shown in trailer u can her walking towards balcony. Krishna restores the infant in her womb and cruses Ashwatthama to become immortal ,which if u see is scary to be sole immortal as u get witness loss of everybody u love Also the movie might be in sequals

Ashwatthama was not evil in Mahabharat. He was just bad. He wanted to kill pandavas bit killed their sons by mistake. Then he caught in fight with Arjun and both used Brahmastra. But Ashwatthama didn't know how to return it so he redirected it towards Uttara's womb. I think this was the biggest sin that Ashwatthama did and he was punished for it.

Now in the story of Kalki, Ashwatthama will play a positive role. He is not the same Ashwatthama that we saw or read in Mahabharat. This new Ashwatthama has done penance for centuries.
