Japanese Listening Practice | Exploring Japan's Golden Week | Japanese Podcast 日本語ポッドキャスト
Today, we’re diving into the wonderful time of Golden Week in Japan. The holidays within Golden Week include Showa Day, Constitution Memorial Day, Greenery Day, and Children's Day. We’ll be exploring each of these holidays and discussing what makes Golden Week such a special time in Japan.
Showa Day, originally celebrated as the birthday of Emperor Showa, is now a day to reflect on the turbulent period of the Showa era and Japan's recovery and growth. Constitution Memorial Day is dedicated to recognizing the peace and democracy established in the Japanese Constitution. Greenery Day celebrates nature and encourages people to appreciate and engage with the environment. Lastly, Children's Day is a holiday celebrating the healthy growth and happiness of children, marked by the display of koinobori (carp streamers) and kabuto (samurai helmets). Despite the crowds and travel rush during Golden Week, it remains a cherished period for leisure and cultural activities in Japan.

Mastering Japanese through comprehensible input can accelerate your journey to native fluency. Focusing on understanding and comprehensible input is crucial for successful language learning. While many students rush to speak quickly, listening is the most essential skill for language mastery. Listening and then shadowing will effectively prepare you to speak 😊.
Many people who appear to speak a language well struggle to follow conversations because they lack sufficient comprehensible input. Achieving high-level listening comprehension is key, as it provides extensive exposure to the language, leading to the development of other skills. Even reading involves a form of listening since learners often subvocalize.
Don’t worry too much about your progress; just keep practicing shadowing 😌.
