I recently went travelling to Tokyo and spotted some super cool makeup! I thought I'd do a fun comparison for you guys :) This look is my interpretation of the Igari Makeup look and the current trending makeup in America. This is obviously not representative of every single possible makeup style of the respective countries and is simply what I personally noticed and was exposed to! Love you :)

Yep, Americans typically like a more sexy look while the Japanese want to look very youthful and much of the time paler. There are a lot of bleaching products in skin care treatments in many Asian countries. It's saddening.

I don't really think it's saddening; it's just different. Here in the US being tan is in style and people will go and spend hundreds on tanning beds, self tanners, and spray tans. Same stuff different shade.

I' m a Japanese teenager, so I like the Japanese makeup style because it's much more natural and cuter. Let me explain little bit. Japanese girls/women prefer to look cuter and younger. That's why most of them wear pastel colored fashion. Anyway thank you for introducing Japanese makeup style and I am happy to see many people saying they prefer Japanese one here.

I would say there definitely is actually. Im australian and Id also say we have a certain set popular makeup look too. Of course not EVERY ONE wears there makeup like that, but there are DEFINITELY popular trends that a lot of people follow and are distinctive to current western makeup looks, such as the contouring, highlighting concealer, winged eyeliner and voluminous lashes

It's really hard for me to choose. I like both looks. I tend to prefer natural make up like the Japanese style on some days. Other days, I would much rather go for a bolder look like the American style. So I think they're both good and can be used on different occasions to change up your look.

+windwakerftw currently Kylie is a very popular model for makeup and full lips. Marilyn Monroe may have been (and may still be) but Kylie is definitely seen as someone who has given the super full lip look a comeback. I have no opinion on her or her family but I see people trying to mimic her and their style everywhere.

it's just like how each culture has their own person where ppl will try to copy them. if you grew up in the western countries, you are use to her make up and will think it's sexy because you see it so many time. it's everywhere. movies,TV shows, media. its just so heavy impacted into us.but now if you grew up in the eastern country, looks are different.

As a professional makeup artist, western women realistically want to look more like the Japanese style. I know that heavy makeup is popular on Instagram, but you rarely see it in shops or clubs. I wish we had more Asian makeup brands in America. The colours and textures are amazing.

The heavy look is popular on social media, which means teens usually follow what's popular on there. Older Teens and Adults do NOT wear that kind of makeup style. And most women tend to go for the Japanese style. Besides, I feel sorry for young teenagers nowadays if wearing a ton of makeup is the only way they can feel confident. You should be doing it because you want to, not because you feel other people won't accept you without it.

As a half Japanese half English girl whos been living in Tokyo fr 6 years I found this really interesting. I definitely see a big difference in Japanese make-up trends and US trends. I buy a lot of US make up products online or in dept. stores as I find Japanese make-up is very neutral and girly.But they have very good primers and blushes here.

theyre called tear bags. Apparently in japan they are considered "cutesy" and sort of doll like. I think she makes hers with makeup or has them naturally and/or enhances them with makeup.

i have foundation but it lightweight incase I need to get rid of any discoloration otherwise I wear bb cream, mascara and chapstick. The only time I wear heavy makeup is fancy occasions like weddings or school dances, ect.
