Love this, what an improvement! I cleared out my childhood room a few years ago - in America, we have too much space (basements, attics, coat closets) which means more places for mindless hoarding!! Took forever to clear it out, but felt so great when it was done!!

I’ve been watching for a while and I just want to say: I hope you feel proud of what you’ve done with this KZfaq channel. You’ve put in a lot of hard work learning English, editing, coming up with video ideas…etc. Way to go!

Good point made about limiting storage space. Space restrictions encourage intentional storage rather than justifying collecting more belongings.

I always appreciate your honesty and willingness to show us when things get cluttered in your living space. It's a reminder that everyone is human, even a minimalist KZfaqr! My favorite technique is limiting the amount of space that something is allowed to take up (like you do with your books). That makes a big difference for me!

I lived in Japan for some time and got so used to having tatami and minimal furniture that I ordered some for my apartment upon moving back to the US. My room is set up just like yours here, complete with the small non-tatami space for the simple work desk and chair! Love it.

Hi Aki, 'I was a teacher and now I’m a full time minimalist'…😁 happy new year 🎈 and good luck for your new profession! I think you’re still a teacher …how to do minimalism properly. I like natural materials like bamboo, they have warm vibes. Living plants want care and give back good air. Your child room is an adult room, perfect for a minimalist now, though I always preferred to have an apartment of my own. Love, Monika❣

Thank you for sharing your wisdom and love for minimalism. Today I cleaned out my childhood bedroom after 7 years of leaving it untouched. I was absolutely shocked by all the stuff I had kept. I ended up donating around 80%, throwing away 10% and keeping the other 10%. For the record I have over 300 books, around 150 DVDs, countless plushies and things I was afraid to throw away because they had been gifted to me. I took your advice of keeping stuff practical and stuff that brought me joy (e.g. a birthday card my parents gave me when I was 12). I feel so free and whilst I do have a long way before I could ever be considered a minimalist, you have taught me so much stuff over the last year I've been following you. As a result, I am able to keep on top of general housework (which was hard for me because of my ADHD and the clutter I owned), my spending habits have got so much better and I was able to take my first vacation this year which I was never able to do because I would always spend my money on clutter. Whilst its not perfect, I can honestly say the quality of my life has vastly improved over the last year from following your advice and watching your content. Thank you so much Aki, I wish you the best 2024 possible!!!

I love just about all the changes you've made to your room! I particularly like all the bamboo, it has such a clean and peaceful feel to it. The tatami mats look like they would feel so nice to walk on! The only thing I'd worry about is taking away the curtains - what happens if you need your room to be dark? Or if you need to block the sunlight to keep your room cool? I have the kind of blinds that are a single sheet of vinyl the same size as the window. You can pull a chain to roll the blind up, and it ends up in a tight roll at the very top of the window. Mine are white, the same colour as the wall and window frame, so when they're rolled up, you can hardly notice them at all. But they're very good at blocking the light despite being quite thin, so when they're pulled down, you can make a room pretty dark even during the day! I live in Australia, and the sun can be very fierce in Summer - it can be a challenge to try and keep your house cool, even with an air conditioner. So on hot days, I close all the blinds in the house, and because they're white, they reflect the sunlight and help keep the house a lot cooler. They also hold a buffer of air between the curtain and the window pane which acts as insulation, helping to keep your house from losing warmth in winter. Those kind of blinds might work for your room?

Really nice makeover, your room looks very relaxing and cozy now! :) It is interesting to experiment with the brightness of the light by looking at the Kelvin Scale on the light bulbs, which determines their color/temperature. If its too high like 4000-5000K its very close to daylight and therefore affects sleep. This kind of light is more suitable for places like offices in order to provide energy. But for a bedroom a scale of 2000-3000K is better suited for creating a warmer relaxing atmosphere before bedtime. It was a really good idea that you changed your light :D

Some of us in western countries do New Year cleans; we have Slavic background n it is a part of our family approach to life - we clean very conscientiously much like the Japanese do, to respect our property and space - but I love Osouji (forgive our mixed spelling) and a clean space.

You also share cute, funny comments between each point which I really appreciate ❤ I have a content suggestions, not really sure if everyone wants this sort of video from you or it's something you'd want, but I think it would be cool wherein you can ask your followers to send in questions about you, then you can choose which you want to answer.
