@MrJoeyBoombotz It is called "Nata" in Japanese. Japan is a typical forestry country and forestry people always carry Nata for their jobs and for protecting themselves from a bear attack seriously. Thanks.

@Prowler1 To choose Japanese hatchet (handy axe), the swing moment (power or weight) is important. Blade length, thickness, and height determine it. The big hatchet with a black blade has the biggest swing moment far beyond the others. The middle sized hatchet made of blue paper steel has just good swing moment and nimbleness. The gavkoo's one is very nimble but a bit weak as a chopper compared to the other choppers. BK2 cannot join the choppers...it's sad. Thanks.

@flyflung I think of Japanese hatchet (Nata) as a bear fighting weapon. Since Japanese brown bear was assigned to be a protected species and the hunting season for it was limited, the number of it has been increasing year by year. Outside the hunting season we are not allowed to carry guns and can meet a bear in high possibility. Its weak point is said to be a nose portion of its face. Chopping there is the most effective. So my Nata must be powerful, and nimble too. Thanks.

@MrJoeyBoombotz . It is an amazing fact that bear are fought with a hatchet knife in Japan. I am impressed with that. In America the forestry people use "bear spray", a powerful kind of 'tear gas'" that takes away the bears sense of smell, in addition to blinding it temporarily and creating much pain in the para-nasal sinuses and lacrimal glands. Taking away its sense of smell is what the bear finds most difficult, for they are nearly blind and rely more on their sense of smell.

@Nebulax123 The large one is quite powerful. But not so nimble as the small one. So I am thinking between the two for the next freshwater fishing camping as fighting a bear weapon seriously. Thank you!

I prefer the Japanese bear fighting tools over the BK2. I prefer the premium model of the 2 Japanese bear fighting tools. They are almost like fro's. I would love to have a tool like that for batoning wood or fighting bears. Does that kind of blade have a name like, machete, bolo or parang. Or is it just called a bear fighting tool?

Hey Wako, are these for wood chopping or bear fighting? Are y'all allowed to carry machetes? How about an axe or western style hatchet? Just something to think about

Virtuovice, you are doing the same thing that almost every product reviwer does, you chop wood with out a proper support, the way you hold the wood, your hand and arm buffers the impact of the tool and makes the tool bounce, put a log or a bigger peice of wood under the wood you are choping, exactlly where the tool hits. You'll see the difference.
