Also, Becky the background music you use when you are painting is so dramatic and I love it. It makes me feel like I am watching a big budge adventure movie. Thanks for making me feel like I am at the cinema. :)

I'd highly recommend the whole 48 set, as there are loads of pretty colours in the range! TheArtShop.com.au has the whole range of Kuretake sets in stock now.😁 Not the Boku Undo set though. 😢

I really like the Boku-Undo paints. I've seen them in many other videos, and they didn't seem as impressive as they did in your video, so that's interesting. How fun that you did two paintings! Now I want to dig out my watercolors and do something with them and ignore all my other projects for a while. 😜 Maybe I'll do exactly that. Thanks for the inspiration to paint, Becky!

Thank you! I know they aren't exactly a new supply, but I was excited to finally have them so I guess that translated into the video, lol. Have fun painting! 😁

I was just sitting here, painting my nails, and thinking 'I need a BTA fix' when I got the notification for this. You're my go-to for product demos/impressions/reviews and you showed these products wonderfully. 👍 I now have a crush on 'Cherry Blossom Pink'.

Just as well I had a video then, haha! But thank you so much for all of your support and kind words, it really makes my day! I've thought of something else to paint with the cherry blossom pink so I will add it to the ideas board. 😉 Edit: I am also totally stealing BTA! 😂

So lovely! That second layer on the background of both paintings really made them pop. I love those muted blacks, they’re such natural looking practical colors to have. By the way, I’m so happy you decided to draw a raven ahh!

I love the Boku-undo paints, I think they are neither watercolour or gouache, they are ink based! Whatever, they give great results used very spontaneously, and I use them differently to anything else, but they are good to use alongside other paints too. I really enjoy them, and the gansai paints, though I only have a tiny palette of them, and the gold metallic ones. They do interesting things and are fun, which is I think the best bit about them! Fun paintings, enjoy your voiceover too because you are so good natured and easy going in the way you discuss things.
@BeckyTregear

Thank you for your lovely feedback! The boku ones would be sumi-e based ink? I very cleverly forgot to mention that, lol! My voiceovers tend to be unscripted so I do forget things sometimes, but I find that reading from a script makes me sound far more robotic, and so it is a bit of a trade off. But logistics aside, I really love Japanese paints and they're a lot of fun to use. I'm glad you enjoy them too - they have some great metallics! ♥️

New Sub! I bought this new set tonight before I watched your video. I have the 48 color wood box set these will go great with. Next I'll get the new opal set. I really like these paints. Kremer pigments are my favorite though.

Ooh opal set? I must look that up! I've looked at the Kremer paints and they seem really nice. A bit difficult getting them to Australia I think though.....maybe one day I will find a set! Thank you for subscribing and I hope you enjoy my channel. 🙂❤

I’ve actually ordered the Kuretake 6 color set where they give you a free watercolor and brush pen. I’m very excited to them and because they are watercolor, no matter how dark the color is, where there is watercolor there is a way to create lighter colors.

Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed watching you paint and discuss what worked and what doesn’t. Mixing the colors from the other pallets was very helpful. I just bought the three same pallets. I saved money buying the 36 set and 12 set over the 48 set. That was a welcome surprise. I purchased mine from Carpe diem markers.

I paint with gouache, they are nothing like gouache. Gouache are kind of like painting with powdered pastel. Or colored dirt lol. The Gansai are their own thing. You can tell by the price they are not top quality paint. So the more expensive colors are going to have more filler in them. Just a fact of life. They are still nice paints and I enjoy them very much. Great video.
@BeckyTregear
@BeckyTregear 2 жыл бұрын
You're right! I've been using gouache recently, and they are definitely not the same as Gansai. The latter feel more sticky and have an ink-like texture to them.

I think I like the black set more than the colours, but wow when they are put together, they really look fab. Your paintings look lovely. Thank you for doing this for us. Have to have that black set first, then save up for the others.

I really love the boku undo set too; those muted darks are so pretty, and I am glad I finally added it to my collection! I am glad it helped you make decisions as to what to get next. All 48 Kuretake colours are great, and I still kind of want the big box set, despite my reasonings not to, lol!

I’ve got a smaller set of this brand for a while but I still don’t have the confidence to start using them. Hopefully that’ll change in a bit as right now I’m preoccupied with my studies. I really like how you use them in your art!

You do “negative painting” so well. I haven’t mastered that one yet; I get completely confused trying to imagine images in the “negative” view.
@BeckyTregear
@BeckyTregear 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I generally find it easier to draw shadow areas first, and I think it is also from being a photographer and teaching myself over time to consider the 'negative space' around a subject. That helped a lot with painting as well 😊

Now that it’s 3 years later, which brand of Japanese sumi paints do you think are better? Kuretake or Boko Undo? I’d like to buy some
@BeckyTregear
@BeckyTregear 3 ай бұрын
Boku Undo are proper Sumi paints, and Kuretake released some similar ones which contain graphite. They do have a new release now which are proper sumi paints and I've just ordered some, lol. But Boku undo were cheaper and I really like them. 😊

Great review, Becky. I l enjoyed how you used both products. I have been considering buying a couple of the Etchr sketchbooks or paper pads. Have you done a review on them? Hmmm, I will have to check. If you haven't will you please consider doing one? Thanks. I would like to point out that the Boku Undo is made of ink and were originally meant to be used in Sumi e drawings and the gansai paints are sticky due to the binder used and were originally meant to be used as in the underpainting for a type of Japanese painting that I cannot pronounce or spell. The traditional uses for both mediums may lead to limits in what one can do with them if they are used like traditional western watercolor paints (Daniel Smith, DaVinci, QOR, M.Graham). Sadie saves the day has an excellent youtube video and blog post all about Gansai paints: www.sadiesavestheday.com/blog/2016/10/3/what-is-gansai-watercolor-101 FYI: I would love to see you use the Gansai paints and Boku Undo paints using the traditional paper used in Japan.

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback! I haven't yet done a video specifically for the Etchr sketchbooks, so I will have to add that to my ever growing To Do list. Thank you for the extra info on the paints. I am sure there are traditional ways to use them, and I really should explore that further. I know I have some Japanese paper hiding somewhere in my collection....I just need to find it 😂 I will check out more of Sadie's videos when I get a chance!
