@@Driftuner have you played an epiphone in the last couple years ? I was always down on epiphone but the last two I’ve tried have been pretty awesome. I played about a 2021 lp standard and then just last fall a LP custom silver burst and it might have been the nicest 800 dollar guitar I’ve ever held. I’m an Ibanez guy and agree that I’ve never played a bad Fujigen built guitar and in fact prefer the Japanese fenders, but I have to admit epiphone is building some nice guitars wherever they are made now.

I got a Fgn Iliad and play with this wonderful guitar on gigs every week. My main guitar with a G&L stratocaster (bargain too). I sold my previous fender US telecaster, great too, but definitely felt in love with the Iliad, which has a good sustain and is not as heavy as my US. Important... You guys should definitely do another video on the rest of the FGN range when you have them in stock, especially the Masterfield series. When I was a kid - many moons ago - the expression "Made in Japan" was often used to describe cheaply (poorly) made goods. That perception began to change when Toyota and Honda beat the American car manufacturers with high quality and reliable autos at reasonable prices. I visited Japan 20 years ago - everything they do is high quality - it's in their DNA.

I got a heavily gigged one for ~750 USD a couple years ago - I'll still put it against any other single cut made (I could still sell it for 1200 no problem but I'm keeping it). The fretwork is astounding and it plays like buttered butter even though it's rashed and oxidized af otherwise. It's a rock machine. People joke when they say stuff like that but it's no joke and you can vouch. A lot of guitar; that's 110% accurate. Not for the money, but that's a heck of a nice bonus on top of a unit that is already custom shop quality, fit and finish. I have been letting go of instruments worth 3x this one because I just don't need them now. I'm scared to buy another because what if I just got lucky with this one? This could be a unicorn.

They are excellent guitars. I've had an Iliad Standard for a couple of years and it's my go to for recording as it never goes out of tune, intonates beautifully and is perfectly silent even when recording with PC's around and electric lights on. They are quite polite guitars though so don't expect the snarling nastiness that a great vintage tele bridge pickup can give you.

FGN make incredible guitars. I've played about 4-5 of them over the years and I will tell you their boundary series is better than the Fender Mexican line and is around the same price if not cheaper, FGN's entry level guitars are easily on the level on anything else made in japan thats often 2-3X the price. FGN really don't mess around when it comes to attention to detail and quality. A store I went to had a Boudary lliad ( T type) that had the pickguard put in slightly out of place. FGN literally recalled it and sent a replacement on a £550 guitar! From the entry level all the way up to the £2000 Expert range they take their craft and quality of their guitars super seriously and they are really passionate about making guitars, they truly love what they do.

I tried an old, I’m sure laminate Aria 12 string from probably the 70s in a shop. I picked up several acoustic guitars that day everything from 1500 -2000 Martins and Taylors on down to Sea Gull, Gretsch and Recording Kings and that old Aria was the best playing and sounding guitar in the shop. I was impressed with how straight the neck was and it had pretty low action to. They were asking 300 for it, it was a lower end model and they were asking about 100 more than what they had been selling for. Maybe it was an extremely good example, but you could tell it had been played. Anyway I told the guy working in the shop that old Aria is the best guitar you got in the shop for the money. He kinda nodded and rolled his eyes at me. They are a shop that specializes in acoustic guitars and they have a room full of new Martins and Taylors and then a room with the more affordable beginner and intermediate stuff. They are kinda guitar snobs I guess. I’ve always loved the old 70s MIJ stuff before it was trendy to those old Yamahas are giant slayers. I’ve always wanted a 12 string but I’ve never pulled the trigger on one. I wish I’d made an offer on that old Aria though it was seriously impressive. Now everyone is coming around to the old Japanese guitars and they are probably still better than anything you can buy new for 600 or so but the days of scooping them up for a couple hundred bucks is over I’m afraid.

Years ago, I had a Fender Heartfield Talon, pretty much an Ibanez RG style with a stupid thin neck that was so comfortable. It was made in 1991 at the Fujigen Factory, at the time I had no clue what it was. Bought it for $60 at a flea market, wish I hadn't sold it.

I had my Iliad JIL2CLASHM (the T-style in candy apple red) delivered today. It's unbelievably good. I have tried many T-style guitars, Fender included, and the only one that I could compare with the FGN is the American Original 60s. It sounds like a Tele should, but with modern playability and the extra in-series position. Plus, it's really light

What is the neck profile like?
@benjimontgomery9826
@benjimontgomery9826 Жыл бұрын
@@Jake24378 a bit chunky, thicker than the "modern C" by Fender, in fact is described by FGN as a "D shape" (it has more "shoulder"). not a shredder neck, especially if you have small hands like I do. But I got used to it very quickly, maybe because it's really smooth on the edges

I have a French made Vigier guitar that in my opinion has no match in quality and playability, but if I could only afford $650 these guitars should be worth a look.

Based on the fact that I have two of the mid-1980s Fuji gen Squier strats I would say these are likely great guitars and they certainly look and sound like it from the video.

awesome guitars, I have a masterfield (think 330 with centre block) in black with the P90's and it is phenomenal. Holds its own very well against my custom shop 335. great value and quality

Yeah Capt, Illiad is definitely JRR Tolkein, apart from te fact that it was originally written by ancient Greek author Homer, so maybe a couple of weeks off target. Though I think that there may have been a race of japanese luthiers with a similar name, mentioned somewhere in the Tolkein books....though we could both be wrong lol.

I'd love to give one of the FGN guitars a go. I have a Fender Japan '89 Contemporary Strat and a 2008 Ibanez RG770DX reissue both made in that factory. Honestly, I can pick a fault on either of those instruments. To me, they are both perfect. The set up out the factory on the Ibanez was the best I've ever felt. That Ibanez was the best guitar I'd played by far until I picked up the 89 Strat. That is a work of art. There's something magic that goes on behind closed doors at Fujigen, I can't explain it otherwise.

I'll be ordering one soon! I had a MIJ Fender "Japanese" Jazz bass from the 80's. It was a Ruby micro Flake... I sold it and have regretted it for years. Nothing has played Close. But I'm not a bassist and bought it because of how great it was. Every Band I was in the Bassist always used it because they couldn't believe how great it was... Also going to order a Vox Clubman 60 when those release. I live in the states but so many companies here are getting destroyed by corporations... I'll gladly order from across the pond to keep an indie shop going. 15:09 Pete fell in love pahaha...

I've got two FGNs, an Iliad T-style which is phenomenal for the money, and a singlecut which is just phenomenal (but quite heavy). The only thing I can say against FGN, is that they're quite unadventurous when it comes to the looks of the guitars. But if you want flawless build quality at a fair price with an understated look, FGN should definitely be on your radar. You're basically getting top of the range guitars at close to factory direct prices.

People who say moving the neck doesn't do anything neglect the fact that when playing a guitar in front of a cranked amplifier, the varying aspect angles of the guitar relative to amplifier can induce and diminish resonance and harmonic frequencies observed by hearing these different sounds and feedback. The naysayers should take off their headphones, proceed to a live amplifier. Plug in, crank it up and experience the resonance, harmonics and feedback of playing and positioning a guitar in different aspect angles in front of a live amp.
