4 жыл бұрынSo I just feel like wanted to do this. I really like Kanemaru-san's random english phrases (tho there’s a bit of Tomokazu Seki as well) and I just like this seiyuu overall. There's still some engrish in the gameplay (Like when Sonic gets hit, dies or reaches the goal), also some may be in the adventures summaries and forces dialogues, but I'm too lazy to look for them or record it myself, yeah.
Sadly with the newest games we don't get much of engrish from Sonic. As well as we don't get good stories :c

It's always like that. To Japan, the voice actor IS the character. It's the reason why Goku's VA is still the same

@@xenogen372 In addition to that, its also the reason why the entire Japanese cast for Final Fantasy VII was left untouched for the remake. Japanese seiyuu's are essentially seen as celebrities. They're just as big as film/live action actors. If they were replaced for no reason (that wasn't from the actor passing away, retiring, OR the original VA getting involved in controversy), it would be viewed as incredibly disrespectful.

Sonic's Japanese voice is adorably lovable, and yet it suits his personality so well. Makes me very appreciative that _Sonic_ games usually give you the option to choose between languages for both the spoken dialogue and subtitles.

Japan tends to be more loyal to their VAs because they know the performers kinda make the character, if you get what I mean.

Yeah japan takes VA's pretty seriously. Until a voice actor dies or does something really bad, they become a character for as long as something is linked. What that means is that some stuff might end up years apart so they might change VA's to acomodate a new run time, like JoJo OVA from back then VS JoJo anime series.

Can't imagine what it's like to have Sonic's voice be the same since Adventure. In America, the different voices have defined distinct eras of Sonic so much that they feel like different characters. It's surreal to me that in Japan, the Sonic from Lost World or Heroes or Black Knight are all practically the same.

Not only Sonic's voice tbh, most of the japanese VAs are very consent in Sonic games. Most of them were voicing their characters since their debut games.

The way he says “ heroes” sounds kinda british. With an American/Canadian accent, the “o” at the end of “heroes” would be pronounced like the o in “nobody”, while here he emphasizes the o more, pronouncing the “o” as in “row” as with a British/Australian accent. He did a great job with it!

I've noticed that sometimes Japanese accented English tends to sound like a cockney accent, for example the opening theme to the anime Turn A Gundam has the exact same thing with its narrator. You could swear it's legit a guy with a cockney accent but no, it's just a bilingual Japanese guy

Here’s a small detail that some may not notice: as Sonic became more mainstream in America, the US team actually started handling the scripts and those were translated into Japanese, instead of the other way around. This becomes apparent as the lip sync for characters starts to match more with the US voices, as opposed to syncing better with Japanese voice lines as they did before.

Awesome job on the compilation! The only pieces of Engrish you missed was from the Japanese dub of Sonic Advance 3 on the GBA. They're small but i thought it was worth pointing out. Junichi Kanemaru is a boss as Sonic! 😎💙

I like to think that in an alternate reality, sonic just always spoke japanese, and improved his english throughout the years and game titles. You could use that to explain why classic sonic is mute in generations, at that point in his life he simply hadnt learnt any english other than "yes" and "Im outta here"
