(how) do you prevent the queen from laying eggs into the comb that shall be harvested later?

There is no need to prevent because the queen lays eggs down ward in the newly constructed combs. As the bees hatch out above, the workers backfill the combs with honey. So generally the upper portion is honey and the bottom is the brood. therefore the brood nest is never opened or disturbed . That is my understanding. :)

NOW WHY WOULDN T THEY MAKE THE CUTTING WIRE A FEW INCHES LONGER AND CRIMP RINGS ON THE ENDS BIG ENOUGH TO PUT A GLOVED FINGER THROUGH THAT DOESN T MAKE ANY SENSE
