Dont trust all of the stuff she said in this video, it is unique to her jardine. my Jardine is very easy to train and if flight trained. he is good in a harness and indeed is very loud when he talks. He is super cuddly and is very very smart. He knows how to open containers and says many words and phrases. Not all Jardine Parrots are the same.

Exactly she is REALLY "generalizing" here about an entire species. Instead of saying this is her birds unique personality which ALL birds have. I have a Senegal Parrot same "POI" family as Jardines. And she's a sweetheart with me. I've been in the avian field now for the better part of 30yrs. Working "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey and Budgies to Macaws. I've also owned many POI species such as; Meyers, Senegal, Red Belly, Jardines, and Capes the largest of the family. I think my most stubborn bird was an IRN or Indian Ringneck. And it's true if you do not work with these birds daily THEY WILL become loud and aggressive. Honestly though i think the POI and Pionus make FANTASTIC pets that don't mind being handled. But are also quite independent too be on their own as well. And quite quiet for being parrots compared too say a Sun Conure, or Quaker Parrot.

@@tomtalker2000 thanks for the info, I'm just starting to look at these types of birds, really taking my time choosing. The POI and pionus might be perfect for me, because I don't think I would be able to give a bird like African Grey the kind of attention they would require. I'm learning a lot and enjoying getting to know about all the different breeds. There's so many to choose from. I have been leaning towards parrotlets because they're smart and small and might even talk a little if I get a boy. But now I'm thinking bigger and more laid back like POI and pionus.

I have a greater Jardine (just over a year now, first orange feathers have appeared above the beak)- not THAT noisy. They whistle and call early in the morning and at sunset. Vocal yes. Associate different members of household with different sounds. She likes going for a shoulder ride when we go for a walk, She will now mimic my wife's Samsung smartwatch to call her to go for a walk. Stubborn, yes, but not dumb - just very, very opinionated(did I say Very?). Cuddly when you allow her to approach you. Seriously hard bite - but they growl if they dislike what is going on, so you are warned. ....... They love to be with you .

Jawellnofine. I have a 20 yr old male, really not that noisy. Easily trained and listens well. Most lovable bird ever-totally loyal and fantastic pet. Gets on incredibly well with our Macaw. Very sociable bird.

I have a female that I acquired around 1 yr of age. And she is now 18. She went through a very bitey stage. Deep bites. They can be very fearful and according to my avian vet remember the past. Mine is super easy to train!! Has a good vocabulary and uses language appropriately. She now uses language rather than bites. One unique characteristic with Jardines when scared is they hold perfectly stilll before they launch an attack. So don’t expect puffed up feathers and pinning eyes as a warning. Lol after her adolescence she is a Velcro bird and constantly wants head rubs. But not a cuddly bird like I see cockatoos are. Super quiet too. Only at night will she do a couple loud flock calls then to bed. She flock calls when I leave but nothing outrageous. Not a first time bird.

I have a Greater Jardine and he is so quiet. He only makes noise when he wants attention. Mine also hates toys. He rarely chews anything. Except when in my trailer, for some reason he likes the material it's built with. He didn't used to be cuddly, but after 7 yrs of having him, he is the most cuddliest. And mine is much bigger than a cockatiel. Totally different body density. My Jardine is extremely smart. He understands everything going on around him. I love him so much and wouldn't have chosen any other bird over him. But tbh, most ppl don't keep their birds forever. So of you do get a bird, make sure its for forever. They truly fall in love with their owners, and tbh, I think my bird would die of a heartache if he ever didn't have me...

Thank you so much for the video! I have one my self, he is 10 months old and I was sure that im the only one to have such a stubborn and angry parrot. In all the videos and information on the internet, people are saying that this bird is actualy comfortable and quiet. My Leo doesn't like when I try to pet him or cuddle with him. He only likes to sit on my shoulder and clean his feathers. Well.. I guess I will have to get use to it. Thanks to you I can see now that Im not the only one. 🥰🥰

From my experience, don’t try to pet him if he doesn’t like it. They hold grudges. They can go through a rough adolescence stage and bite. At around 15 yrs old, my females behavior changed and always wants head scratches n to be with me constantly. She definitely lets me know her boundaries

jardines are very strong willed and don't like to talk. if you want a performative parrot, they're about the worst. But mine is an huge snuggler and incredibly curious and easy to bond to new people.

In my opinion they are the most beautiful, but that’s at the cost of them being the most mischievous of the Poicephalus.

The best bird I ever met was a Jardine in a mall pet store over 20 years ago. They were asking crazy money for him and I couldn't afford him, but I worked in the mall and visited him regularly until the store suddenly shut down. I think about him sometimes and hope he made out ok with whomever he wound up with. This young lady hasn't met enough parakeets and cockatiels. Parakeets can be incredibly bright, far more than most people realize. And cockatiels can in fact draw blood. 😋🙈

My male Jardine is very similar to yours in a lot of ways! He's very feisty/stubborn but also very food driven so is learning tricks okay. He's not as cuddly as say a conure but he does like to snuggle and a good scritch :)

Jardine’s are super intelligent birds and quite easy to train. Many are super cuddly. They are actually know as being relatively quiet. They can go through a nippy stage in adolescence but you can work with them and greatly diminish this behavior. Please don’t qualify a whole species based only on your experience with one bird
@rubyrattle53714 жыл бұрын
Aretha Crout This has been my experience with Jardines.. Do you have one? Do you know from experience? I haven’t said they are not intelligent because I know they are. I own one. Buy one and tell me how it is 😉

Aretha Crout How is anyone supposed to tell people about a breed of bird without telling their experience?
@arethacrout69594 жыл бұрын
Ruby Rattle it’s just that you sId you’re telling us about “Jardine’s parrots” and kept saying “they are like” maybe just say what your bird is like. I have, and have met many Jardine’s and didn’t find most to be stubborn or angry or hard to teach. And most I’ve found to be extremely cuddly. Not saying there are those who aren’t, but generally speaking, Jardine’s are pretty darn friendly. I’m not trying to be mean. Sorry.

You are a great bird mom. How do you think this species would do in a house with another parrot? African grey?
@rubyrattle53712 жыл бұрын
I think they could definitely be introduced to a house with another parrot ! They are extremely inquisitive parrots so they would find another parrot super interesting ! African Greys are obviously much bigger and have a much stronger bite, so I would let them check each other out for a bit, before having out the cage activity together..

Hard to find them especially after the Texas flooding. I did a lot of resurrecting for a bird and everything leeds to this bird. All the traits opposite of what you are telling me?? I do know they are like humans very different. Got some Yellow-chevroned Parakeets for My parents looks like a male and female both very different again one bits and one sit on finger, is pretty friendly. They are also hard to find and I got them both for $350 really good pice. Back to your bird, its still young so who knows. Now you have me thinking perhaps I need to find another bird to get me .. so sad.

I have a jardín parrot that is 21 years old and I have never been able to hold her or take care of her without her biting the crap out of me. When my parents got her she was being picked on by other birds and was abused by kids in the shop. In my opinion she sees me as a kid due to growing up with her so maybe that’s why, I’m really not sure. I really want to take her out and interact with her. But I’m terrified of her at this point but I want her to have the best life possible. I have no idea where to start.
@rubyrattle53713 жыл бұрын
I’m no expert, but maybe try some positive reinforcement.. every time she comes out of her cage nicely and calmly, give her a treat. The thing is, parrots get scarred from their pasts and it’s really difficult for them to get out of that mindset and start trusting people again..

@thomasnienow22492 жыл бұрын
This would be a better video if you explained the parrot's particular behavior instead of applying human terms like "stubborn". Just having its own desires and ideas doesn't make a bird stubborn. I also question your calling him noisy because Jardine's are generally considered quieter parrots. Again, just making some noise occasionally doesn't mean he's noisy ... Like a cockatoo for instance.
@rubyrattle53712 жыл бұрын
It’s just my experience with them ! Every parrot is different, especially with their vocals. Frankie is a very vocal bird, whether he’s doing activities or not.. I think you can call them noisy when they are constantly making some sort of noise 😅 I am no expert, just my thoughts and opinions.. :)
