For example, "Joe and I went to the movies"; take out Joe, and it becomes "I went to the movies", which still makes sense. But, "Sam needs to talk to Kyle and I"; take away Kyle, and it becomes "Sam needs to talk to I", which doesn't make sense, so you'd say "and me" in that context (or "and myself", or "me and Kyle", whatever).
