The awesome thing is, he only had a couple of points written down on that paper. Most of the speech was improvised, because he apparently knew it wouldn't sound right otherwise (it has been said on Czech interview for local CNN). And I agree, it was a great speech.

I was there. Everything surrounding the celebration was perfect and first class by the Penguins. Glad he's a Penguin now and forever. It's where he belongs. 68.

@TheHutchIsOn Seems pretty straightforward to me. Dude is just saying he felt Jagr's true personality pour out. And you could feel the love. Most players don't get that personal during speeches. It was a historic moment and his speech made it so much better.

My favorite part is when he thanked his parents and said that everything his dad told him, he was right on. Well deserved. I definitely remember Jaromir Jagr growing up.

I loved seeing it too but I can't help but think of someone that was not there, and will probably never be there and thats Tom Barrasso. I fully understand that his relationship with the team is non existent, and was ruined almost 30 years ago, but its a shame. Had they had a decent relationship, he would be up in the rafters too.

I remember playing street hockey with a net up, on my roller blades and yelling every time I shot into an empty net "Lemieux to Jagr, he scores!!!" or "Straka down the boards, to Jagr, he scores". Those were the best moments of my childhood. Thank You

So glad to hear them remember Coach Badger Bob Johnson, I'm sure his spirit was standing on that platform with all of them...Jags burst into tears when he heard that he was terminally ill, he was like a father figure to a young Jaromir back then. MARIO JR!!!

Watched this live and watched it again on you tube. Just an amazing player and man will i miss watching him play. Lemieux was magnificent, Jags was the great 68. Wonderful ceremony and wonderful experience. Happy Retirement Jags. You deserve it.

Leaf's fan here, I used to grow up begging my dad to watch more then 1 period of hockey after Don Cherry(HNIC) the only team I didn't do this was the penguins because either Mario or Jagr would be working on a hat trick, love your city.

This was absolutely epic, you could see though Jagr was doing all he could to not cry, not comfortable with holding speeches even if it was great, I reckon he just wanted to make sure to get his speech in without breaking down, its ok to shed a tear Jaromir 🙂

@@robertoborjas2091 71 vs 68: almost the same PPG (1,14 vs 1,1), but Jagr played 1700 (!) games and Malkin (only) 1150. That makes the difference. it's much easier to do more PPG in fewer games. Anyway I agree with 87, he's killer.

This man is insane. When be entered the NHL, he was playing in the same league as Larry Robinson, born in 1951. Now, in Czechia, he’s playing in the same league as Adam Benak, a prospect born in 2007.
