Let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour. - Apply conditioner to end - Massage exfoliating shampoo (Briogeo) only to scalp - Second shampoo to scalp - Rinse thoroughly - Strain water from hair and apply hair mask (Briogeo) to ends and mid-ends. Leave it in for 10 minutes before rinsing it out. - Keep hair in microfiber towel for couple of minutes - Apply detangler and brush hair - Apply hair serum (Briogeo) to ends - Apply leave-in cream/conditioner and scrunch hair - Add volume mousse (Purology). Hey y’all, I’m a licensed hair stylist and I definitely recommend brushing your hair AT LEAST once or twice a week. Like she said, don’t do it when it’s dry. On towel dried hair, apply your leave ins/oils and with a wide tooth comb OR wet brush (***very important) brush through your hair in sections, starting from the bottom. ALWAYS start from the bottom and work your way up. The reason we recommend not brushing your hair when it’s wet and starting from the bottom is because your hair stretches when it’s wet, and pulling and tugging with a brush through wet tangles causes it to stretch out and break. However, if you are extra gentle and start from the bottom, you should be able to avoid breakage. Not brushing at all will also cause breakage so it’s just about finding a happy medium ✨

I can’t brush mine while wet because it’s too fragile. I just dry brush it then re wet it afterwards and style. I don’t understand the crime of brushing it dry
@alli9300
@alli9300 7 ай бұрын
@@halobaby0331 It’s not a crime, but your hair is more prone to breakage when it’s dry or dripping wet. Towel dried hair absorbs products better which allows a brush or comb to slip the through the hair easier. If it’s dripping wet all of the product will just run out, and if it’s bone dry your hair cuticle is slightly lifted and brushing will cause breakage which results in split ends. It really truly comes down to what works for you and what doesn’t. You know your hair best, and we are just here to help you get to your end goal. If brushing dry, rewetting and styling works for you, then just keep on doing that!

My hair suddenly changed, i don´t know why, but i noticed that when being dry, they explode when being brushed and it looks so bad. Now my hair stylist of at least 10 years suddenly tells me that i developed curls xD My hair is really thick and heavy too and it was so confusing suddenly how i should take care if them haha so thanks for you comments !

Everyone says not to brush your hair when dry so what DO we do? I can't just let my hair be tangled, do I just take a shower every time it gets knotty?- it gets knotted multiple times throughout the day, I feel like my hair will just look like a mess 😭

Maybe you could use a detangling spray?
@booboodfool9101
@booboodfool9101 10 ай бұрын
Refresh your hair by spraying a bit of water and using a mousse or leave-in conditioner. You're supposed to detangle in the shower with a hair mask or conditioner that has good slip. Also, stop touching your hair, it will mess up your wave pattern and your hands can make your hair dirty. Also, wide tooth combs ain't shit, they take way too long to detangle, use a wet brush💅

@@ankitamohanty662 I have type 2b waves. I think because our moms were on us about making sure we brushed our hair when where little, people are too obsessed with the idea that thorough hair bushing is totally necessary, but if you have curls of any kind (yes, waves are curls!), it's really not. When I get up in the morning, I use a wide-toothed comb, or sometimes just finger comb because sometimes even a wide-toothed comb can break the curls and cause them to fluff up in an unruly way, on any very unruly spots if I have serious bedhead. However, I don't worry about making sure to get all of my hair, because it's not needed. I'll then apply light product for frizz and am ready to go. If I need put it up, I just put it up. Once I realized that I didn't have straight hair, I just became less obsessed with the idea that I need a tight and sleek ponytail or bun. I mean...I don't, really. I'm not in the military nor am I a ballerina, I don't need to fit strict hair regulations, and my hair looks good with more of a relaxed textured updo than a tight pony/bun. And I absolutely never comb it when it's wet! Not even when I blow-dry it. Like most people with curly hair, I use a defuser and just let the defuser cradle it as it drys, then put in product. No round brush needed. When my hair is shorter, which is how I usually keep it, this is all I really do in terms of combing. When I let it grow out, though (for example during COVID), I did noticed that proto-dreds started to form at the back of my neck (that's where curly hair tends to be most tight), so I did need to work those out. However, doing it with my fingers was far less damaging than trying to rip a comb or brush through them. That would just end up breaking the hair and tearing out clumps of it. I also found that a leave in conditioner helped them not form.

@@ankitamohanty662 Some important things to note if you're not brushing constantly: put your hair in a protective style overnight and/or a silk bonnet, a silk pillowcase helps too; don't touch or flip your hair around in general; put it in a protective style if it's windy or rainy outside, even a loose bun on top of your hair will do; use a shower cap on the days you're not washing it. If you do all of that, you just don't need to brush it every day (bear in mind, it has leave in conditioner and product in it to help with hold and taming frizz). As a wavy haired person who can stretch wash days out 5-6 days, on day 3 or 4 I often gently detangle a little with my fingers to make it look neater, and maybe get it slightly damp or use a refresh spray to tame frizz and revitalise the wave. If that's just not working, I just go for a messy bun 😄 But I used to treat it like straight hair (I was very poofy) and brush it every day, so getting my head around the idea that I didn't have to do that did take some adjustments. I also had to practice things like putting my hair in a loose bun or claw clip without pulling it tight, and figure out how to get things working right on wash day (how to use products and techniques) so it didn't frizz up horribly over time. Honestly it's still a work in progress, and I have a lot of bleach damage which doesn't help, but on the days I get it right my hair looks good enough I can wear it down on day 5 with just a little bit of water and a tiny bit of leave in conditioner spritzed on and scrunched in to help tame some frizz. And that's without brushing it since wash day! It sounds impossible when you're not used to it, but it can be done! Just don't expect it to look sleek and slicked-down around your head when tied up, that look does almost always require a brush. I only use a brush to smooth down the top if I need to be fancy - going to a wedding or something - and even then I'm very careful and only use it to smooth big bumps once my hair is already tied up.

Speaking from experience, if you have seborrheic dermatitis, BE CAREFUL with oiling that scalp! Many oils commonly used for this, such as coconut oil, olive oil, even jojoba oil, can make seb derm way way WAY worse. Do your research, use ingredients that are not known to cause flares, and even then, keep an eye on your scalp and make sure that oil is not bad for you specifically, because it very well might still be.

This is so funny cause I never knew my hair was wavy/curly until I shaved off my heat damaged hair 3 years ago & now after 28 years of life I know that it’s been wavy all along & I didn’t know how to style it. I’ve been watching instagram reels mostly to learn how to style & I love my hair texture now. I just get out the shower & style it with most of the products you’ve mentioned & it’s been a journey for sure. My hair length is now short & it’s cute also no heat since I’ve chopped it

First tip: dont brush hair. I wouldnt be able to live without brushing through my hair. Ive got very very long hair and when I dont brush my hair and instead try to style my hair wavy its just a mess. Not brushing through my hair leaves me finding loose hairs all over me all throughout the day, half hanging out of the blanket of it all. Sometimes I find myself sitting on the loose strands and since its not brushed those loose strands are stuck in tangles somewhere along the way and it pulls. or it makes it hard to pull them out of the bunch. If I dont brush and collect the loose strands I run the risk of having these 3 ft long hairs everywhere, getting stuck in desk chair wheels, and since the hair is so long all it takes is one strand to fuck up a wheel if it gets in there. I've had to clean out desk chair wheels before, it takes forever when there's hair and string wrapped up in those. That and if I dont brush and blow dry my scalp at the very least my horrible cowlicks (multiple at the crown of my head) end up making my scalp feel bruised. I swear Ive tried and I'd love to make my wavy hair work, but I despise what I'd have to deal with more than I'd enjoy the waves. That and spending more time on upkeep than I already do, with needing to style it every day, seems like such a waste of time. I could spend that time on my art instead. Blow dry it, put it up in a hair stick. No bruised scalp, no loose hairs all over me every second of the day, I can easily braid it into styles without worrying about tangles all over the place. I keep getting this idea in my head every now and then that I should try making my wavy hair work and will look up hair routines for my hair type, but every time I do Im reminded why I dont.

One thing I found out that worked really well for me when transitioning from straightening it to letting it dry back into my natural waves is to put it on a braid or two AFTER it has dried and undoing it for a bit to let the hair breathe at least once a day. I found ponytails put too much strain on my scalp and the ponytail itself still looked puffy and wrong, but braiding it into a lose braid kept it from frizzing up too much and helped keeping it clean. It also made pinning it up easier. It does give you that fingerwavy pattern but once your hair is less damaged from the heat I found that it bounced back to my natural waves without any issue but of course it could be different for your hair. Edit: I also think that if you don't have really defined waves and especially if you have fine hair, you *might* do better cutting your hair above elbow-length. In my experience at that length the weight of the hair doesn't drag down the waves so much but it doesn't become unmanageable wavy either.

Your wave pattern is the same type as mine-- the thinner, longer waves. I have much less dense hair than you do, and mine is super fine, so my waves end up looking stringy when wet but if I blow-dry them too much they just become frizzy crimp floof that looks like netting. Moisture retention is hard (is that a wavy thing with the mids and ends?) and I find I need extra masks/conditioners, but some weigh my hair down so much it becomes straight. I also struggle with a condition called MCAS, which makes you have allergies/hypersensitivity to cosmetics, so I'm constantly on the hunt for a mousse, gel, or curl cream that has no fragrance and won't blow my face up with oil/autoimmunity. I'll check out some of your products featured! I am always on the hunt for ones I don't react to. I also love the idea of "conditioning the ends" before shampooing and can't wait to try. Thanks for all the info! I hope my waves behave to look as good as yours!

I have fine, dense, low-porosity hair and the stringy battle is real! I have found that moisture and getting good curl clumps with soaking wet hair is key to really combatting the stinginess and dry frizz. Also, just time - I’m about 8 months into my natural hair journey and my hair is so much healthier, wavier, and less stringy than when I started. I have mild MCAS (plus a bunch of other stuff lol! but am very sensitive to fragrance and certain ingredients) My top recs are: Ouidad fragrance free bonding shampoo and conditioner, Maui Moisture Curl Quench shampoo and conditioner (has a coconut smell but never had issues and very gentle on scalp), and LUS Curly All-In-One Fragrance Free. I do a deep cleanse every few weeks or so with a cheap herbal essences sulfate shampoo (the rose one) to get rid of build-up and weirdly have had no issues with that - I also use if I have a reaction to a product and need something to help really cleanse it from my hair and scalp effectively, works very well just follow with moisture. I’ve been okay with JVN and Virtue products but they are scented and I wish they weren’t. Gels and mousses tend to be too scented and scalp irritating for me but I have used the Curlsmith Hydrojelly with good success and am going to test the LUS sea moss gel. Innersense is a main stay of the curly girl movement and they are making more fragrance free products - their conditioner doesn’t have enough “slip” for me but I found the shampoo and conditioner very gentle and non-irritating. There is also Seen which as a brand is very focused on non-irritating, fragrance free hair care but I have yet to try personally. I brush style in the shower with soaking wet hair and a wet brush and then plop with a hair towel and get pretty good results, but it took a long time for my hair to heal, learn what works, and get good results. Still mastering the refresh but a continuous water mister is super helpful and I will brush if it’s getting very knotty/frizzy - I am just very gentle and use a tangle teezer. And, I brush before washing - helps a lot with oil distribution, build-up, circulation, and any scalp itchiness. I hope this helps!

Good thing I'm lazy when it came to brushing my hair lmao. Got one thing down. Of course I do try to brush every so often these days, but I was horrible at doing it when I was younger. I do find that brushing when wet does help my frizziness though. But I guess you shouldn't overdo it. Like how washing your hair (with shampoo) everyday can actually damage it. Leave-in conditioners are nice for frizziness too. How you wash your hair can make a huge difference too. Of course, by the end of the day, it's all trial and error to find something that works for you. I've been trying to find tips for wavy hair for a long time! There's so much for curly or straight (mostly curly though,) but not so much for wavy.

I use the denman brush after putting styling curly gel, then curl boosting spray, scrunch it & let it air dry. I will defenitely try the texture wave spray, been looking for something during my non wash days.

Anyone else struggle with curls/ waves up to the roots? That is my biggest struggle because it makes my hair look soooo messy/ disheveled. It’s so hard to leave my front pieces out of my styles without heat because they look so weird with the curly root and wavy ends. It has been this way my whole life.

I have wavy hair the only part of my hair that really gets dry is my ends but if I put oil in like my roots or any other parts of my hair it becomes very very greasy like a day later so I don't know what to do I use hask biotin boost works really well brush my hair when it's wet and then air dry I don't use any type of leave-ins because it leaves my hair looking wet and after it piles into Grease. If anybody has any advice on how I can make my hair look better please comment

Correct me if Im wrong but I have the same kind of hair and I think the problem is not only the wavyness but also the thinness. It is so light and fragile that it breaks easily and it's not heavy enough to weigh down much so it looks puffy and frizzy more than someone with a thick hair I feel like... Very high maintenance. 😅

Yes, the curly girl method works but if you have to put in so much effort and product to get it curly/wavy is it even fair to say that one has a curly/wavy hair. If I'd put in this much artificial ingrediants to get it straight I would not call my hair naturally straight. We have the confused wavy frizz floofball hair type naturally and it sucks.
@jeremywaygay
@jeremywaygay 6 ай бұрын
its not necessarily all the effort to *get* the hair curly/wavy, because you can still see the wave patterns present when the hair is freshly out of the shower. its more about *maintaining* and *defining* waves/curls after it's dried because having a looser curl pattern means that it doesn't have the same strong hold as tighter curls do. It's very easy to just undo that when failing to apply the proper techniques to caring for that sorta hair (like dry brushing through it root to tips with a bad brush). and the thing is, you really don't need that many products to manage this. I mean, aside from basic shampoo and conditioner in the shower, i personally just use mouse and a leave-in. As for putting in a lot of effort, I mean, wavy/curly hair in general takes a lot of effort for maintenance. This is no different! Hope that helps.

Your hair seems very similar to mine! My problem is that when I use these kind of techniques with the products and moisturizing, it just weighs it down and the waves fall out. But also if I dont use anything, I lose a lot of waves mainly around the front and sides. I can't win!! 😫 How do I find the right product? What do I need to look for?
