Shamim Hanfi is a renowned Urdu critic, playwright, columnist, and connoisseur of art. A leading force behind the modernist movement in Urdu literature, he made his mark first with his Jadeediyat ki Falsafiyana Asaas (Philosophical Foundations of Modernism). This was followed by a number of his works which stand him in good stead now. Two of his more prominent works include Jadeediyat Aur Nai Shayari and Nai Sheri Riwayat. In 2015, his poetry collection Aakhiri Pehar ki Dastak was published by Rekhta Books. Hanfi resides in New Delhi and supports many literary societies and organizations such as Ghalib Academy, Anjuman Taraqqi Urdu Hind, Ghalib Institute, and Rekhta Foundation.
Dr. Siraj Ajmali, an alumnus of Delhi University, is an associate professor at the Department of Urdu, Aligarh Muslim University. He has been the president of The Literary Club from 2001 to 2009 and again from 2012 till 2015. Besides being a prolific writer and the patron of Urdu language, he is an orator who defines excellence each time he graces the dais.
