Just think Lady Diahann was in awe of all the black people on the set. When she spent many years being the only one. We are grateful to you. Ms. Carroll. Thank you

Diahann Carroll was hilarious as Whitley's mother. She deserved that nomination for guest actress. To bad she did not win. Rest in Power. I love you Carol Diann Johnson. Sidney Poitier please say something if not please call her daughter Suzanne and convey your condolences. Thank you very much.

My favorite Guest Star was ironically in My Favorite Scene with Ms. Diahann Carroll; and she was none other than Ms. Josephine Premice. When she came to visit Whitley after her Marriage to Dewayne . When she asks her to help her with her Bags, her response was EPIC!! That ENTIRE SCENE was EPIC to me . To know those Ladies History. Is still Just WOW for me. THEY were and Are our Greatnesses Personified!! ❤️

I always noticed the "shift" in ADW after Debbie Allen took over.

That was when it became iconic. That show worked so much better with Jasmine and Kadeem at the helm.

Great interview! And my favorite guest star on "A Different World" was none other than the legendary Diahann Carroll who was discussed in this segment! She was perfect as Whitley 's mother! Loved every moment that she was on the screen...may she rest on peace.

Jasmine Guy is awesome! And...what she did for Tupac is another story. She's such a genuine nice person. She really broke that down. So true about white people writing for Black shows with no knowledge of the Black experience.

I've always said you don't have to be black to appreciate or write black shows but you DO need to be open to listen and do research for certain nuances that you don't inherently understand as a non black person. The dude who wrote that show Teen Wolf had the nerve to claim he didn't put black people on his show because he's white and doesn't know how to write other races.... Wtf? Has he never met a black person before? It ain't rocket science just write a person and if you need help with ethnic nuances how about you hire writers of color who could fill in the blanks? Norman Lear did it and look how that turned out.

Wow didn't know they weren't getting the deserved recognition and accolades at the time. As a young girl I realized how special this show was, and rewatching now it's confirmed even more. This show had such a positive impact on my life, so grateful to have it then and to be able to rewatch it now. And Dawayne Wayne was my favorite!😏

I loved all of the characters. Whitley was my favorite. I loved when she would say "Dewayne." She really loved him on the show. Decades have gone by and I still don't like seeing episodes with Whitley & Byron as a couple. LoL!

Looking back with 20-20 hindsight: I have to say Blair Underwood, as Dwayne's brilliant friend going to the Iraq War. Nobody DREAMED what impact that war would have nearly 30 years later...

The white writers came from a place where they think all blacks the same. We are not. We as people regardless of color have different experiences. TV, movies, and the entertainment industry is starting to reflect that. More black writers are needed to proudly portray the characters correctly. That show made such a difference. I loved Jasmine Guy. I have a 20 year old daughter named after her.

Imo they still mostly show black characters as monolithic like always. The few shows with predominant black casts that showed that texture, nuance, distinction and specificity with the characters were A Different World, Fresh Prince and Living Single.
