An oversight? Are you serious, John Prine was the most prolific songwriter in our history. Artisits such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen are fans and admit that Prine is their favorite songwriter. John’s passing hit Nashville incredilby hard, where are you guys based out of. The hardest ticket to get any year was John Prine. PLUS, he was a better person than he was an artist.

John Prine was a poet and uncompromising artist who wrote and sang about what he wanted, not what was trending or dictated. An American treasure whose light will always outshine anything Nashville could bestow. True artists like him, JJW, Guy Clark, Gram Parsons, Billie Joe, TVZ let their music speak for itself. And does it ever.

the big tell is that the CMA released a statement saying they do not do exactly what they DID do with charlie daniels on the very same show in question. My husband & I said & felt exactly like Jason Isbell & his wife. John Prine is a pure genius no one will ever measure up to his songwriting talent. I grew up on Jerry Jeff, John & Prine and the brilliant Billy Joe Shaver. They personify pure genuine country music. There are a lot of talented new artists but other than Luke Combs, Jamey Johnson, Cody Johnson, Cris Stapleton snd a few select others these new artists seem to all sound alike & are more pop but times change & its what sells in this era. Dan & Shay aren't a drop in a bucket to Brooks & Dunn. Country radio won't even play Jamey Johnson he's pure country. It's all about what sells tickets & numbers. The true country artists lived the life they sing & write about. Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings George Jones that's why they were great. It will never be the same unfortunately.

John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Billy Joe Shaver were three artists who contributed greatly to Country Music and made it what it is today. The three of them were so talented and singers in their own right, that not to be mentioned is a major slight to three of the modern Country music's best writers. Together they stood the test of time and came out on top of Country Music Row. They were the creme of the crop and no one who was gifted with one of their songs was ever going to not have a hit. The Country Music Hall of Fame would and should do them the honour of inducting into the rare air of artists that are already members of that hallowed few. I am glad Jason Isbell and his wife stood their ground and stood up to the CMA and let them know that they're not going to be joining an organization that won't recognize talent when it stared them in the face for so long.

John Prine research and let you get you can go anywhere and see performers perform this songs he had Way of twisting words in the English language around and still make them fit He kept his songs flowing, and everybody sings along, so pure and clean meaningful. Yes, a true legend always should be recognized.

I was introduced to John Prine by my best boyhood friend Daniel who was a free spirit and taught me so much about life and being free (He later got killed in a car accident) I can still hear him as we walk home late at night through the foggy mist Dan up ahead singing Sam Stone miss you Dan think of you often and play those John Prine records we loved

To Sturgill's point, its extreemly unlikely that they were not asked multiple times for a mention of John Prine for the CMA. The organizers very likely were full aware. Not to mention, if they were not aware, what does that say about their focus on the music? For me personally, not including those three is just a confirmation of what I had already assumed about the industry and some specific artists, so it was actually helpful

after some thought I think what happened is that basically the people who organize these events and even the people who promote country stars really dont even know who John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker or Billy Joe Shaver even are. In fact, the might even not ever even listen to the music they do promote. Now comes with the understanding of how these mega media companies work, they just push things out like products without really being a fan or what they are pushing out

however, with what I said just above I do not know how they published a statement saying the do not do the very thing they DID do for Charlie Daniel's in the very same event that is being talked about. never mind that they likely did for people like Jonny Cash

I meant Amanda Shires when she was 29 doing a small little tour and she happened to come to my own town York, PA to play at an art gallery. I met Amanda Shires that night and I met her music that night. I had no idea who she was. A friend of mine invited me because he knew of her music. Well, needless to say she was stunning! Amanda's earlier albums West Coast Timbers and Carrying Lightning are two of the most underrated albums of all time. Not only that, she was a doll baby that night. She was running around with everybody and just having a great wonderful time. Long Live John Prine!

Just saw this . I know that it was a year ago, but. I Salute Jason Isbell and His Wife Amanda Shires for telling the cmass'es where to put it . John Prime is a legendary songwriter and poet. Everybody that still yokes up with the cma is weak, superficial and not worth my time and surely won't be getting any of my hard earned dollars.

You know, I have to say this, as the CountryMusicFamily lost Doug Supernaw today to Lung&Bladder Cancers that spread to his bones, spine, brain and other organs, TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODIES..... My mother died of bladder cancer that spread throughout her body, she passed 4 years ago but it still feels like yesterday..... @@loreli222, he passed away yesterday of Lung and Bladder Cancer, he was admitted to the hospital in January 2019 with pain and a persistent cough which doctors originally diagnosed as Pneumonia and doctors did further tests which found tumors in his bladder, lungs and bones, he was diagnosed with StageIV Cancer.... Not much had been updated since around April and July of last year after Doug underwent biopsies and removal of the tumors in March, he started treatment and had 50% shrinkage of the tumors but in October of this year, Doug’s wife updated fans that his condition deteriorated with the cancer spreading to his spine and brain and was put in hospice care..... I think that might be actually what happened. I think the organizers of these events might not even know the music they promote, its just a product. They select some guy or gal and push the promote machine and off it goes. Now how they knew charlie daniels I dont know, but I do know if they are so far removed from their own events that the publish a response saying they do not do EXACTLY what they DID do for charlie daniels then well...that is what it is

The CMA once again prove that they are only interested in the CMA as a self serving business. So many significant and important country artists have been treated shabbily/ignored over the years. Power to Jason and Amanda for standing up for the true country fans and artistes and bringing to light the CMA's shortcomings and cavalier attitudes.

Just saw this post. . No organization is perfect, but this is definitely an oversight of great talent, to say the least. Hey, CMA, figure out a way to fix this, please. I am just an old guy, strictly amateur, but when I get together to jam w/ friends, Angel From Montgomery is always in the mix. John Prine led the way. He's as good as it gets. Give him and Jerry Jeff and Joe the respect they deserve. They weren't the reserve team. I hate to see Jason and Amanda give up their CMA membership. Hope there is a way to bring them back, too.

The CMA sounds exactly like any award show any award shows. They sound like the Rock and roll Hall of Fame for country aka a complete joke. This reminds me of the Golden Globes when they left out Farrah Fawcett (even though she wasn't that great of an actress but still) and how her husband got all pissed off as well
