Jason Lezak sat down with Josh Davis of Swimming World TV to discuss the legendary anchor swim he had to end the 4x100 free relay ten years ago at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
Lezak talked about the aura of the relay heading into the race in 2008 and what advice he has for the younger generations.
Lezak also discussed if Phelps has "repaid" him for that gold medal.

One of the most clutch performances in Olympic history, in any sport

Best race ever, Jason showed poise, determination and most of all he showed the “veteran” mentality by riding Alain Bernard’s wave 3/4 of the anchor saving energy for the burst at the last 20-25 meters to edge out Bernard.

My wife and two daughters and I watched that race live on TV . We were absolutely losing our minds , jumping up and down , screaming , watching Jason swim that leg . Its actually a family moment we still talk about today. Thanks Jason , from us in Vancouver Canada.

Jason Lezak lives at 4606 Anchor Place. And it is always difficult when he moves to a new city after that race.

At 02:20 -- the most inappropriate question of all time
@redsfavs829

I'm not a swimmer and I admit I wondered if Michael Phelps shared any of his bonus money for the eight golds with the other relay swimmers. I agree that it's an inappropriate question and I had no right to know the answer - but I bet Jason Lezak gets asked that a lot and it's nice to have an answer out there so he gets asked less. But he shouldn't have to discuss it with anyone.

They are both good friends and he was just messing with him and ribbing him a bit clearly. How that went over your head I don’t get.

Looking at it from both sides, I am sure that they guy would just like to have an interview that is about just him. It's gotta get old when people constantly ask you about Phelps. I see where he was taking it, that's obvious at the end, and I see that he was basically stating to everyone, it's because of him that Phelps won the gold. But we don't need to have that told to us, it's obvious for anyone with a brain. He should have just praised him without mentioning Phelps.

1:00 the moment the commentator has to admit "damnit!" (still an amazing interview!). Hey LezaK... you and I were both Econ majors and shared a Econ 150 in building EconWhoCares. Don't remember the tall track and field athlete who was hoping you could help him out with answers? That's ok, I made it somehow, but it's great to watch you live the dream! Ole Ole Ole!!!

I'm watching "The Greatest Race" on NBC's Peacock Channel now. As a competitive swimmer and water polo player in high school, I love swimming. I live in NYC now but I still dream about being in the pool. There are endless great moments in sports history. There was Secretariat's shattering 1973 Triple Crown records. Then there is perhaps the greatest moment in sports history with Jesse Owens' 1936 win in front of Adolf Hitler. In the world of swimming there is Michael Phelps. 8 golds in 8 days. I still tremble thinking about it. Alain Bernard owned the world record for the 100 meter freestyle. What Jason Lezak did was the "greatest achievement in sports history" in my lifetime. It's scientifically impossible to be a full body length behind the fastest swimmer in the world on the final turn and win the race. Somehow Jason Lezak pulled off the impossible. Every time I watch this race I am gobsmacked. I still can't believe this happened. Till this day, Ceasar Cielo holds the 100m world record with a time of 46.91. Jason's swim of 46.06 doesn't count as a world record because it was on a relay. I bow to Michael Phelps, Garrett Weber-Gale, Cullen Jones, & Jason Lezak. I will never see anything like this again.
