i had several w114 ,also the coupés ,all gasoline in Europe a early 73 with the 1.8 engine and a 74 with more modern features as the w123 was already in sale ,it had the 230 engine and diesel i had maybe 5 and the last was a 74 looking new bought in 93 with millions of km´s but mantained with all stamps in a mercedes Garage in germany the engine must had been restored as it had full power ,a 220D, top speed 140 km/h ,it was a heavy car in downhill roads when you pressed the clutch the car got faster due to it´s weight , in a big diesel garage to fix engines from agriculture machines, i went there with it to see if it had full compression and the mechanics were amazed when showing them the km counter with the dented wheels to rotate the numbers all flat ,they had never seen that, but i could drive with less than what today is 5€ (maybe 3.5€)the same km´s that today in the same car i spend 65€ in diesel more or less 400kms, this at the maximum speed of 120km/hour but lots of mountain roads so not very fast trip but lot´s of changes in the gearbox.
