Dean was so good he went toe to toe with everybody on his show and just nails it every time. One of the most talented entertainers to ever live.

I would sing the Andrews Sisters songs with my grandmother. She played the organ and she could really belt out the words. This video clip is sweet because I notice that Maxene is lovingly holding on to Laverne's waist at certain points in the performance. What a wonderful show of love and respect from Maxene toward Laverne, which would be Laverne's last performance.

this is just wonderful. it is amazing how long these artists in the old age lasts, with different kinds of attractiveness in every stage... this is what I call devotion to art and entertainment! I am a post-80 person btw : )

God I wish the world was like this now. I'm 17 and I wish I lived in this time.

Hi Joe: I know just what you mean. I was around ten years old at this time and I barely remember it, but things seemed so much more meaningful. Families seemed to spend more time together. I think it was a better time too.
@JoeFletcher4339 жыл бұрын
Oh absolutely. I feel no one has respect or intelligence anymore.
@justcath19 жыл бұрын
I don't know if it's intelligence as much as it's just a basic respect for ones fellow man. I still call older gentlemen "sir" and I'm kind of saddened when they are so shocked. A testimony to the day we live in. I was not meant to be in this decade. Cath in Ottawa, Ontario. Canada, eh?

They look great!! Big Band was one of America's greatest contributions in the world. We all should be proud of it, no matter what music you listen to--and the Andrews Sisters were a major part of it--a distinct sound

If Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards, and in heels, the Andrews Sisters did everything the "brat pack" did, but in three part harmony, and with a sense of humor and joy that will outlast anything their smirking, crooning partners ever did.

They were not my generation, but after seeing and hearing them perform "Aurora" in Abbott & Costello's "Hold That Ghost," I was hooked. "Boogie Woogie Bugel Boy" was nothing short of genius -- I guess Bette Midler thought so too. They are still considered the biggest selling female group of all time & charted more Billboard songs than Elvis & The Beatles. I am proud that they are in that company though. They deserve it. They had class.

It brings up an old memory of two of the three sisters having visited our house in Sherman Oaks back in the early 1960's. Supposedly the three weren't talking to one another, but I clearly remember two of them partying at our home with a number of old Jazz musicians. If you know 'those types', you will understand that I was told to stay in my room and not come out-children were seen and not heard in those days! I suspect mom had locked herself in the back bedroom. But dad always had a great bar and cigarette smoke wafted overhead. The music they played was so loud (dad had hand-built a huge monophonic system that would actually bend the bay window (in the living room) back and forth a few degrees). It took me many years to forgive dad has Jazz arrogance as he kept me from learning/playing/experiencing any other kind of music until the end of the '60's. I suspect he just gave up at that point! But I remember the folks were all nice and would make the same/standard comments if-by chance-they would see a young one in their presence They were mostly what you might call Jazz standard-bearers. Though i was isolated, I still fondly recall what little I can remember of those gatherings. They're all gone now-passed away. Patti was a customer of my Albertson's store in Northridge until her later years when she didn't really go out very much...good people, one and all.

What makes me really sad is that LaVerne died that year of cancer.. I wish that they could have stayed a lot longer than they did.
@trekkiejunk4 жыл бұрын
Actually, the next year. This is from September 66 and she died in 67. But it was like 9 months later, so less than a year. You should check out a biography of them. Maxine and Patty fought like cats and dogs since childhood, and broke up several times, and almost broke up a hundred more.

A true rare last vid of the sisters. The first Andrews sister (LaVerne) died in 1967 at the age of 56 (born in 1911). The one next to Dean (Maxine) is the outgoing one from the song "The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy"; she died in 1995 at the age of 79 (born in 1916). Patty was born in 1918. Thanks for posting this video.
