Man and I thought only I knew this trick! Great video. I've been collecting regular nail lacquer for decades so when I started using gel, I found that even a thin gel overlay on my natural nails using builder in a bottle extended the longevity of my nail lacquer drastically as long as my nail prep was solid. Although I still love the curing time of gel, I no longer feel like I have to neglect my nail lacquers anymore.

This is good advice, when I wore regular polish I did all of it. The reason I switched to gel with a rubber base overlay is not only longevity (2-3 weeks no problem) but resistance to breaking. I used to grow them out and then break one, either cut them back or slapped on a press on nail. I grew aggravated with that cycle. In a year of wearing gel I have had a single break, I slammed the finger in a drawer and the top of the nail ripped away. The rubber base just tore, that was nice to know that it didn't try to take the whole nail with it. I have had a few cracks, same as I used to get with regular polish. I used to silk wrap or them repair with acrylic powder, now I use polygel to repair. As for taking them off...e file all the way, no soaking here. I e file down to the first rubber base layer then switch to a hand file. I leave a thin coating of rubber base on between manicures, it doesn't tend to lift. Now polygel will lift after a month or so, it must be replaced if I still need it for repair. Anyway there is so much to learn to do gel on yourself safely. Allergies and damage from the e file were my main concerns, now I work on perfecting technique. It is definitely not for everyone to do on themselves, and going to a salon would be a pain. So I wrote all that to ask which OPI color are you using here? I did not see it specifically in the amazon list of products you have😊

Thank you for this video! I use regular polish so it can be easily removed when needed. Did you put your base coat over a gel builder? I was thinking of using a gel builder but read not to put regular polish over it. Can you recommend a good gel builder?
