Using crushed brick is a common practice in many kinds of fired ceramics. I know in pottery it's called grog. It helps to reinforce the clay during the firing process and reduces shrinkage as the crushed brick is already been fired, in addition to making things cheaper. You can use any kind of crushed ceramic but crushed brick is the most common as there's just more supply.

The gold mine I worked at had a 48 x 42 jaw crusher powered by a 250 HP wound rotor motor and a 96" diameter 9 ton flywheel. It took almost 60 seconds to come up to speed and crushed down to 4" minus. And the rock was hard enough to jam it about ones a month. It was so loud that MSHA require us to build the operator a sound proofed booth and still limited exposure to 3 or 4 hours per shift.

i was thinking, for super small batch crushing it could be nice to have a 1x1 foot crusher on a batter and motor arrangement. something small enough you could use it on a wheelbarrow, or a very small trailer. i have been looking for a small crusher to have on hand for whatever. but i dont need something too large. at least, for now. i actually would want something to automatically process and classify materials through at least 4 to 6 screen mesh sizes all in one step, with each size mesh cut collected in a bucket or bin for later perusal. something like for classifying material for gems by concentrating mesh sizes for later Gem Sieving in larger batches.

I used to work on a large gravel crusher, you gotta watch those jaw crushers as I’ve seen rocks the size of a 45 gallon barrel get shot out 20’ straight up! 😮 That’s a cute little jaw btw but river rocks being rounded are the ones to watch out for.

The hammers in a hammermill repeatedly strike the material until it's small enough to fall through the screen openings
@EddieSchirmer
@EddieSchirmer Жыл бұрын
a hammer Mill is basically a blender for solid materials. it reduces down materials into whatever size mesh screen allows the material through. since these mills are using water it creates a slurry that allows it to flow and process more easily. basically, they rotate at a certain speed and the centripetal force causes the hammers to flail out and pulverize the material sent into them. fairly simple operation and mechanism.

@mbmmllc I think one of the smaller ones would work fine. Most of the scrap is just random cutoff pieces of 2" blue stone and granite tread. Anything large could easily be broken apart with a demo hammer prior to crushing. In any event I'll show your website to anybody with any sway and we'll see if anything comes of it. I think a jaw crusher would be one of the best pieces of equipment the company ever bought. It's just plain stupid to lose money off of scrap stone.
