Absolutely STUNNING CB750! Total game changer these were. I still remember when they came out. I have one in my garage I am pleased to say. She never sees the light of day but I won't let go of her.

It wasn't a "universal japanese motorcycle" back in 1969 It was a superbike, top predator on very top of the food chain.

@@nickashton3584 The only time T120 left CB750 for dead is when Honda slipped on oil leaking from Triumph.

That‘s normal for all the CB Fours of this era. They go for 100.000 km and more with this sound without issues, if you change the oil as demanded.

In December 1968 I walked by a rack of magazines containing a Cycle World magazine with a a picture of the pre-production CB750 on the cover. I knew at that moment that I had to have one, but demand was such that it was June, 1970 before I actually found one at a showroom. It was gold with black trim, and I took it home for the$1495 list price, out the door. It was produced just before the production change and was identical to the 1969 original, including having the unbelievably melodious exhaust system which sounded like a Jaguar XK--120. I had been riding a 1968 Honda CB450, a bike with many faults and underwhelming performance. The difference in experiencing the new design was incredible, almost beyond belief. It was a true paradigm shift in motorcycling. As for the looks, drivers on the street honked their horns and waved as I drove it home. Upon seeing it, a non-motorcycling friend said, "That is the most beautiful motorcycle I have ever seen." And so it was.

unquestionably a turning point in the industry. also about the only engine style i avoided. too complex, and a bit fat. but it was hard to beat, with 1, 2, or 3 cylinders.

Too complex? Show me an OHC four cylinder less complex that this one. It was rock simple, and easy to work on.

Well done, JAWA TINO! That was an almost perfect specimen! (Ah, well, T chains weren't that hard!) And at It's age, too! As a kid, I'd be checking out the bike that stopped next to us, and if the front wheel was bouncing in time with the engine & I knew it would be a Triumph or Norton before I saw a badge. They were almost intimidating. And then these things turned up & blew them into the weeds! Tanx for the nostalgia trip!

One weakness I never hear mentioned, breaking the final drive chain. Honda going from the K model to the 750FOUR SS went to a 630 link for two years 1977 and 78 and they still could break them.
@Hopeless_and_Forlorn

Never saw one actually break a chain, but the spring-clip master link would fall apart at speed and the chain came off. Mine came off at 70 mph in heavy traffic, but luckily it went under the tire without breaking the crankcase or locking up the wheel. After the recall, the change in gearing due to the new countershaft sprocket led me to install a larger wheel sprocket to restore the performance. Although the engine was strong, the CB"s underwhelming top speed performance was due to the tiny bores in the Keihin carburetors. Honda did not want too much of a good thing, I guess.

One remarkable physiological phenomenon of the 750/4 was the swelled head size of Honda owners. Known amongst bikers as Honda wankeritis. Unlike Covid it wasn't easily contagious.
