Heavy Coal Train, Railroad Crossing Inspection, Train With Caboose Goes Over Bridge, Chasing Locomotives Off The Indy Sub & Catching A Norfolk Southern Train Led With CSX Locomotive! 6 trains in this video if you count the locomotive power move at the wye of the Toledo and Indy Subs.
The coal train was a great catch! I rarely see one in this area. I can't remember the last time that I saw one here but most of the coal in this area comes from Wyoming so it runs the other direction. This coal train came from the Appalachians. Railroad maintenance of way was removing rail sections while that train was passing. Right after that we see a Norfolk Southern train pass while state inspectors are meeting with railroad officials to inspect the crossing gates. I saw them go to another crossing after they were done with this one. A third train passed in the same direction while they were here.
Next we see a short local switching freight train with a transfer caboose on the rear. They were on the overpass in downtown Hamilton and gave me a horn salute.
Then I went over to where the train station used to sit. I heard a train approaching so I tried to beat it there although it turned out to be a couple of locomotives running light southbound. They were coming off the Indy sub. The Indy Sub is not very busy so I was hoping to catch a train on it.
Then when I was over there I heard a Norfolk Southern freight heading southbound near the interchange with Norfolk Southern and CSX. I just barely got there in time and had to film it while sitting at the railroad crossing in my truck. Can you tell in the video when I got out of my truck? I think I did a pretty smooth job of that. Thats not easy son!
What was your favourite train in this video? Was it the infrequent coal train? Btw, I filmed the coal train while standing on a giant concrete block that is used to keep vehicles out of the vacant lot. Good thing I did that so that you could see the coal in the hopper cars. Did you like the caboose? Some people call it a transfer caboose and some call it a platform caboose. It is used when making long reverse moves. It gives the conductor a safe place to stand. What about the last train? That was a Norfolk Southern freight train with a CSX locomotive leading it! That is not very common here. Please leave me a comment.
Filmed March , 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

15:20, Champion Paper. In 1970, when I was 17, I use to deliver bagged crushed ice to almost every department to that company. Both sides of the road. Each department had a metal ice box for the workers lunch. I would remove the tray of lunches and replace the melted bag of ice with a fresh one. It took me about 4 hours to cover that place!

There's usually 1 coal train a day on CSX's Scottslawn Secondary line up here in Columbus. The Scottslawn Secondary runs northwest from Columbus through Kenton and on up through Findlay I believe. And yes, that is Scottslawn the lawn products company. They have a big plant in Marysville.

One has to appreciate the 3-car local which should be called the French Fry Flyer and still rates a caboose. You shot that at a new location which apparently is the sole bridge in town to avoid being stuck at The Crossings. Today's trains actually kept up the pace and moved along with their usual consists including the daily Marquette Railway boxcar

186 cars on that last one! Nearly went cross-eyed counting them. With plastic needing space for sorting out, you'd think they'd have the old paper mill doing something! Pity to see but nice to see the station moved and safe for now. Maybe it'll see some kind of business. Quite a show today, from 'The Local' to the Yard Clean Out train. Thanks Jaw Tooth. Cheers!

What you saw rusted was the old railroad crane. I remember it used to be yellow and starting trust to rust, I don't know when it actually started being there but I know it was there since the early 90's It was there at least that long you were at Heaton Street if you go up one more block there is another crossing to the north this is Vine Street you would be pretty close to it to get a better peek at it.
