The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy is one of the most fully featured midsize SUVs on the market, and for the average new vehicle transaction price of around $45k, you get a fully loaded family SUV. Megan loved the Santa Fe Calligraphy's blend of features, styling, and spaciousness. The rear seat in the Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy is especially comfortable, and with the pano roof, not a bad place to spend time. With a new Hyundai Santa Fe on the horizon with much more appealing styling, the current Santa Fe Calligraphy represents a unique and compelling value proposition when compared to competitors like the Honda Passport, Toyota Venza, or Mazda CX-50, which are all wildly different vehicles themselves. The Honda Passport has far more cargo space. The Mazda CX-50 drives better. The Toyota Venza is much more fuel efficient. But hybrid Santa Fe's exist, and none of them gives you the sheer volume of content that the Hyundai Santa Fe does in Calligraphy trim. You certainly won't be wanting for options. The main drawback is the transmission, which Megan said wouldn't deter her from buying a Santa Fe in Calligraphy trim considering she loved just about everything else.

I love you both. 🎉 I updated from a 2018 Ultimate to a 2023 Calligraphy and love it. I agree that the front has a catfish or whale shark resemblance, but it's stylish and not bad looking. I love the tons of tech and lux items it comes with. I had no idea about DCT, but after 6 months with it... no issues. Dont feel the jerky ride so far. 2024 model was revealed a few weeks ago, and it will have the same engine as the 2023. Personally not a fan of the next model. So very happy i got my 2023. Thanks for the fun review.🎉

2024 is a square, not as nicely designed (exterior) as 21-23.

I love this car; however, there are some things that I find a bit bothersome. The gear shift is done through buttons. There is no wireless connection between the phone and the infotainment system for using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The doors don't lock automatically when you walk away with the keys, so you have to lock them manually either with the key, by touching the door handle, or with the app. Even though it's entirely digital, there is limited customization on the instrument panel. When you have the phone connected to the car and press the voice command button, it activates the car's assistant and not the phone's. Other minor things. Other than that, it's a very nice car.

I love the Calligraphy trim bc of the paint matched body panels & wheel arches, the black grill, the 20" wheels, the diamond quilted Nappa leather, the Head-Up display, & the multicolor ambient lighting. The Coquina Beige elevates this interior to look as nice as the interior of the Genesis GV70

We own a 2022 Hyundai Kona N, which has the same 8-speed wet DCT (dual clutch transmission) mated to a 2L turbo. I absolutely LOVE this transmission. It really transforms the Santa Fe into a high-performance vehicle, which may take some getting used to for suburban moms who've developed a more creepy-crawly driving style. (Now, if a turbocharged version of the Santa Fe's 2.5L mill was available on the Kona N. But, alas!)

I don’t disagree (and we love the Kona N), but I think the performance gain is somewhat wasted in this vehicle category. The torque is more than enough to feel peppy even running through a traditional automatic, which would negate the negative low speed behavior.

This trim has heated rear seats, reclining rear seats, & rear manual sunshades. You also get your own USB ports & a household outlet in the second row

I'd have to look both ways before getting into a 2024 Santa fe. Wouldn't want my friends to see me. The 2023 Santa fe looks like an Angry Snake coming at you when the day lights are on.

You guys should see the Coquina Beige Nappa leather interior which brightens up the interior so much & is a beautiful peanut butter/ caramel tan interior that makes it look & feel like the Palomino interior in Lexus models & the Tupelo interior in the Grand Cherokee Summit & Summit Reserve trims which are way more expensive than this model

I love the finish on the grill. It looks way more stealthy compared to the bright silver grill on the Limited & SEL trim. The silver piece below the grill should either be body color matched or blacked out to give it a stealthier look

Love it it’s like a traverse and a sorento had a baby or very tech forward as the baby palisade it carries on the unique design description people are tired of box- cutter SUVs this is different 2 23:52 in a good way not like Juke by Nissan. This is stylish 24:23 with DTRLs.

Can't be a catfish because it has no whiskers! The Santa Fe in standard or Calligraphy trim is a nice vehicle and both are worthy of a good look if you are in the market for a SUV of this size.

If you thought the 23 looked bad, look at the abomination that the 2024 turned out to be. Personally I’ve liked the design theme from 2013 onward.

We actually prefer the new one, although Megan didn't hate the old one as much as I did. She was a fan of this one whereas I'm more of a fan of the new one.

Great review! Always liked the Santa Fe (and look at the upcoming one!) My biggest problem with Hyundai/Kia products is that they radically change the looks with every generation, making the models look "old" within 4 years. Certainly not helping the resale values (and by ricochet, the lease terms). I just traded a Genesis GV60 for an eGV70, hoping that Genesis will not go the same way in terms of design. Oh... and I agree... dual clutch transmissions from HKG are crappy.
@jax1079
@jax1079 Жыл бұрын
That's actually a great point. Their constant innovation in design certainly exposes older models more quickly, which could hurt resale value a bit down the road. The new Santa Fe looks incredible (and is exactly the kind of styling Megan likes), but it's a radical departure from this one. The dual clutch in this and the Sorento really baffles us because they are absolutely FANTASTIC midsize SUVs in every respect... except that one. A normal automatic would make them practically peerless in the class below three-row SUVs in all around content and value. Hopefully, they've learned their lesson both from a drivability standpoint and reliability standpoint and we see the mainstream dual clutches fade into history.

@@jax1079 Thanks, It's just me and the wife kids are grown. It is smaller but the wife could probably handle the Mazda better. I like the tech on the Hyundai too, though I don't really like the DC transmission on the calligraphy. Mazda did update the 2024 but not a lot. I also wonder about the reliability of the Hyundai? Also for about the same money or cheaper, I could get a low mileage 2021 Lexus certified RX-350 with a V6 and a regular auto transmission with a torque converter 👍😁 Thanks again.

We just got a 2023 Sant Fe Calligraphy, LOVE IT!!! - I am not a fan of the dual clutch either, this will be our 3rd dual clutch, 2012 Focus went at 33k miles, and 2021 Kona was traded in on this with 28k and it was showing issues. I know it has a dual clutch but it's a lease so in 30k miles we will see how much we Love it or Hate it.
