When I was 8, my father got orders for a deployment to Afghanistan. The year was 2014 and he was a member of the special operations community as a combat medic attached to civil affairs and was trained to perform in tier 2 and tier 1 scenarios, also known as a “whiskey medic” My father never sugar coated anything to me and so he said that night “son…daddy’s going to go to a very bad place where he’s going to do some bad things to very bad people and he might not come back.” I shit you not…now I’m Army too sitting on my bunk in AIT writing this…waiting to be a combat medic myself. Oh and my dad is alive and well while a little banged up he’s in a very good place.
