I'm pretty sure my wife and I were at the same screening as both of you last night. I thought I had recognized you. I agree with a lot of what Brad said. I was thinking a lot of the same things just after seeing this. It does have funny moments, but some scenes do feel like they go on too long, and I also very much agree about the lack of a variety in the shots. I know Kevin Smith isn't the most visual director out there, but compared to most of his films, especially things like Mallrats, Dogma, and Strike Back which had a lot more going on in terms of characters traveling places, etc. (as opposed to the Clerks films where they are mostly standing around one location for most of the film.... and even then it didn't feel as monotonous), this still felt very lacking in that respect by comparison. It also doesn't help that they are trying to basically do a new version of/throwback to "Strike Back" on less than half of the budget for that movie (not adjusting for inflation). "Strike Back's" budget was $22 mil, while "Reboot's" is $10mil. So they couldn't even do nearly as much with this as they could with the prior one, and honestly it showed. Where we had the bong-saber battle in "Strike Back," here we see a clip from the new "Bluntman V Chronic" which is mostly just standing around and talking... and that is a clip that was kind of funny, but went on too long, as was the case with many scenes. While there are a lot of cameos in the movie, in some respects even that felt lacking compared to "Strike Back," as this had less past Aksewniverse characters show up in it than Strike Back did. And in this movie it was much more painfully obvious that they were shooting around the brief time that the people making cameos had available to film their scenes. Budget still doesn't explain all of the problems though, because IMO even Chasing Amy was a more visually interesting film than this and was made for $250 thousand. Getting back to scenes dragging on, the odd thing is that his films have always been very dialogue heavy, and at least for the previous Askewniverse movies, usually it was interesting and it rarely if ever felt like it was dragging out too long. This one, however, often felt like scenes should have ended long before they actually did. Sure, this is still better than movies like Zoolander 2 that just try to hit all of the same beats again and don't do much new with it. At least this is doing some clever riffing on reboots and the like. But that only goes so far. I was actually pleasantly surprised with Kevin's daughter in her role. I think she did a great job overall in her part, and gave a performance that justifies her being in the movie for reasons beyond being the director's daughter. I just felt like the new version of the "girl gang" wasn't really fleshed out very well. The other three gang members were more or less there and didn't really stand out in any capacity beyond the fact that they are different races (and in one case, def). You could have swapped any one of the other three out with someone else and it really wouldn't have mattered (comparatively speaking, at least the characters from the girl gang from Strike Back were mostly memorable on their own individual merits). Even when something unexpected happens later in the movie with them, it still didn't do much to change that IMO. Overall this just feels like it should be a rough cut of a new Kevin Smith "Askewniverse" movie rather than the final product. And that disappoints me. While not the greatest films of all time, I still hold the past Askewniverse films in relatively high regard overall. If I had to rank them all from best to worst, this one would be on the bottom of the list by a pretty wide margin.

According to Kevin Smith, he said the budget was $10 million, as opposed to Strike Back's $22 million. One of the reasons why Reboot got a two-night Fathom Event is to keep the marketing cost low. He did also say when the movie reaches a Reboot Roadshow Tour city in the following months, the movie will release in some places around that particular area.

Too much sentimentality wearing a knock off coat of forced humour. I've seen worse (Caddyshack 2, Mortdecai), but I've seen far better.
