The way I saw “Reboot” was like this: You know that restaurant that has that REALLY great dish that was DELICIOUS the first time you ever had it, and you haven’t had it for years, and then the restaurant changed up a couple of ingredients but it’s still the same dish basically, and you order it anyway because you haven’t had it in so long? Sometimes you just want to reorder the same dish because it’s good comfort food. That’s this movie, for fans who had been wanting more of these chuckleheads for a long time because it’s fun to hang out with them, even if only through a movie.

Spot on analogy pimp, i agree. In this case, from where I'm sitting, there's a big old tampon jutting from the center of samesaid dish. Not subtlely inserted, not sneakily added, but stickin right the fuck out the top like a big ol middle finger. "You liked that dish when you were a kid? Well, the new owner of the restaurant is an over the top man-hating reddit-dwelling nonheteronormative microaggression-exposing, genderfluid asexual ascended being whom identifies as a Holley 750 carbeuretor and floats around above the rest of us, mercifully pointing out all of our toxic problematic behaviors. praise be." Sorry, that was way hyperbolic. I'm just so so fatigued with the bare minimum amount of performative wokeness that every. single. intellectual property needs have just to be able to exist. And it's a jay and silent fuckin bob movie, i thought maybe they'd have the testicular fortitude to forgo that bullshit : p

I’ve loved Kevin Smith since first seeing “Mallrats” back as a teenager in the ‘90s but his recent films have mostly disappointed me. (I did like “Clerks II” though! Which was surprising because I didn’t know how you could follow up such an amazing, hilarious film!). I had low expectations for “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot” but was really surprised by how good it was compared to his recent output. Was it as good as his earlier films? No. But it was still pretty funny in a lot of parts and probably the best film Kevin Smith has made in like 12-15 years. I definitely think Jeremy’s review is pretty spot on. Especially about Kevin Smith having his foot in two generations and not sure which to go with. As for favorite ViewAskiew movie... that’s a tough one! But if I had to choose just one, it would be the original “Clerks”. Besides being a great movie, anyone who has ever worked in retail has dealt with everything shown in that film!!! He nailed the crazy, annoying customers perfectly!!!
@ComicCrossing4 жыл бұрын
call me crazy, but since Kevin Smith went way into weed, his shit hasnt been good. APPARENTLY he really got into it through Seth Rogan in Zack and Miri make a Porno, and ever since then his movies have been weird or not great. I'll always remember the story that Bruce Willis told about Cop Out where Smith was so blasted that he would just stare at a screen and barely even direct. which is where his dislike of him came from.
@christopheredwards53374 жыл бұрын
@@ComicCrossing funny you mentioned cop out because Kevin had stated in terms of money he's biggest pay out was that movie. He also got a stack of scripts afterwards because the movie did well financially. He decided not to keep making studio movies and make his own shit. Yeah tusk was weird and yoga hosers but no weird that 99% of other shit that comes out. I mean we got 15 fast furious films and endless remakes and reboots that are shitty versions like the lion king or Aladdin. Bruce has been notoriously a pain in the ass to work with because every actor after cop out still praises Kevin for being a sweetheart so he gets a shit ton of cameos in reboot. It's like I dunno. If Kevin stays exactly the same people complain and he goes for weird shit people complain. It's why I say with Sandler. Love or hate his films. His formula works. Netflix is paying him and his box office and Netflix numbers are massive so his brand works. I think reboot works as much as part 1. Still dick humor and making fun of Jay and weed etc. His fanbase loves him and he technically broke records with reboot because with the roadshow he sold out every venue for 50 cities. Didn't do $100 million but j respect he didn't need to spend $30 million in marketing.

On the subject of the book closing at the end of Dogma: at the time Mewes was right in the thick of his substance abuse troubles and Smith decided it was too hard to get him clean every time he wanted to do another movie, so he thought that that was going to be the last one. If you notice in that scene, even though God was closing the book the book itself was only halfway through. This is because Smith knew he had more stories to tell, but he didn't think he would be able to tell them.

@@sodadrinker89 I feel the same way, even though he would tell you otherwise. As a lifelong fan, I've seen the reboot on the roadshow, and it was a great experience as such, but compared to his pre-stoner era, it's crazy to see how unfocused and all over the place it is. His constant overacting as Silent Bob was also really hard to stomach, it's like he's not even the same character anymore, just Kevin Smith playing activity in a wig. It's a shame, because I think he is a genuinely nice guy and a talented writer when it comes to heart-filled, thought provoking fun, but the frantic nature of his newer works make them borderline unwatchable for non-viewaskew fans. It's like he gave up giving a shit, which is understandable, as he was treated as a genius after clerks, and has been taking serious critical ass-kickings ever since, and it could also be a good thing, if he wouldn't underestimate himself, but I think he kind of does. Oh, well. My fingers are crossed for Clerks III.

The father daughter theme, both real and in story, is exactly what sent it to the too of my Kevin Smith movie mountain as best. Mainly because it completely mirrored my own reconnecting with my daughter and it completely captured the humor, the love, regret and did in a way the laughter was able to cancel snot bubble ugly cries.. And as you said, could it be because we are older and with totally different lenses to filter it through? Most likely, I know it is for me. When I first reconnected with my daughter , Jay and silent Bob strikes back had just come out , so throw brow stoner humor sold me, but now grandfather to that very daughter's daughter is hard to overlook.. The movie is only good if youve got a good knowledge of every other kevin smith production in your mind. Its only a love letter to all the work hes done before. Most of the star studded cast came to do this movie for close to nothing as a paycheck. This is just a fan service movie its not really meant to be good. Its meant to make you point and laugh at all the random stars you know that show up. Plus kevins kids are all through the movies so are their wives and best friends and the movie solely exists to punch at how fucking stupid hollywood is with their sequels and reboots. Theres an entire scene with jason lee talking about how stupid it is. The main cast and returning characters literally just make amazingly written puns aboout their previous works. Never knew he named his daughter HQ. It's kinda cute, like how Robin Williams named his daughter Zelda, as in Hyrule.

I love all these movies, but this is how I would rank them. I recently rewatched all of them before watching Jay and Silent Bob Reboot 1.) Clerks 2.) Dogma 3.) Chasing Amy 4.) Mallrats 5.) Clerks 2 6.) Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back 7.) Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Special shout out to Clerks: The Animated Series.

I love Kevin Smith, but only a few of his movies...luckily, he doesn’t seem to care.
@jcl4103 жыл бұрын
My first Kevin Smith movie was Dogma, which I LOVED. I then watched his other movies. I also loved "Strikes back" as a 40 year old, non stoner. :-) Now at 59, I also loved Reboot. (Still not a stoner - fwiw) Kevin put in a little more serious plot, but hey, we all grow and change - some.

Dads with daughters really don't care how good or bad they are, they just HAVE to cast their daughter in their films. You'd think after Godfather III after what Coppola did, there would be an argument why it is never a good idea.

Jay and Silent strikes back is my favourite weses universe movie. Also this movie had one of the most shocking celebrity cameo I have ever seen. Try to guess the celebrity cameo (I don’t mean strikes back I mean the reboot)
