Thank you so much for reacting to this song. My daughter died from a heroin overdose in 2018 and struggled so much for 5 years. This song is so true and I can relate to watching her suffer and couldn't help her. I love what you said. It's good to see people have compassion instead of judgement for addicts. Nobody wants to be an addict. They just don't want to hurt anymore.
@anthonysims31162 жыл бұрын
A lot of people don't care to listen to the addicts story. Friend died of a heroin OD, and I heard all the "junkie" talk. What they don't know is that he was pretty strait edge all his life. He got hurt and the doctors prescribed him Oxytocin for the pain. Then they cut him off cold turkey. The withdrawal was too much, and the pills cost too much on the street, so he tried heroin. It was cheap, it killed the pain and then killed him. Still to this day, I blame the doctors for his death.

This song was written as a tribute to Andrew Wood, who other's have already mentioned. He has a lot of connections to the Seattle Grunge seen. He was roommates at one point with brother Chris Cornell. Chris formed 'Temple of the Dog' as a tribute to him. Members included two of Andrew's bandmates from Mother Love Bone, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament, along with Eddie Vedder and a few others that were eventually Pearl Jam. Your Alice in Chains connection is their song "Would?" that is a tribute to him as well. He had reached so many people in his short lifespan there's no telling what he could have done himself.

'Rain' is one of Candlebox's overlooked tunes but it is stellar and one of their more developed songs. Candlebox suffered from not being grunge in the grunge era, but had a couple really good rock albums. Add me to the list of those suggesting Mother Love Bone. You don't fully grasp the Seattle sound of the 90s without hearing a little from them.. and feeling the lasting impact Andrew Wood had on Chris Cornell, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Candlebox, etc. 'Stardog Champion' is probably a good entry tune for Mother Love Bone.

Hugely personal for me. I know it's not written 100% about a human relationship, but it fits perfectly. I once showed my disappointment at a former love interests behaviour by embarrassing her at a party in front of many (she came to hug me on a couch and I shrugged her off onto the floor). Two years later she wouldn't even speak to me when I saw her. 20 years later (after the Army) I started Facebook and thought if I saw her I'd want to apologize. I found out instead she had died in her mid twenties to a brain tumor. Don't wait to apologize folks. This is her song when it comes on the USB.

This song brings back memories - dark, hellish memories! I'm a recovering addict, almost 6 years unchained. I was certain that my addiction was going to win and to be honest, I prayed for death to come quickly. I kept a scrap of paper with some songs written on it to play at my funeral, if there was even going to be a funeral. This was one of those songs! I'm in tears now only because I was unable to display any kind of emotion then. I've come so far that I sometimes forget that hell and need to be reminded. I never have to go back! #WeDoRecover

Solely my opinion: I think this is one of the greatest songs ever. The message, the construction, the voice, everything about it is perfect. Just a deep deep song, full of emotion and hurt. And then when you learn and research the song, you find yourself learning about Andy Wood, and his rise and fall. His death resulted in the birth of Pearl Jam. It’s just DEEP.

Andy Wood, from what everyone who knew has said, was an incredible talent who struggled with his own genius, the world only learned of him from the songs of so many of his friends. This song was a tribute to Andy Wood, RIP, of Mother Love Bone, many songs from Seattle bands are a tribute to him. Say Hello To Heaven by Temple of the Dog for example. Candlebox was amazing but got the short end of the stick when it came to fair treatment by record producers and a lot of people were saying they were “grunge copycats and wannabes” at the time. They got bad press and their second album was rushed as they were on a hectic touring schedule so it didn’t sell well at all. Such a shame, they were great in my opinion and his voice is powerful AF. Please check out Screaming Trees, I Nearly Lost You There. You won’t be sorry. 💜 Check out Long Gone Day live with Mark Lanegan and Layne Staley. It’ll blow your doors off!

Saw them live at pain in the grass, way back when it was free, in Seattle. Then saw them a few years back again at a local venue and they still sound the same and emote just as much feeling with all their music.

This song is really a rabbit hole of amazing music being born out of tragedy...This song was written in honor of their friend Andy Wood singer of the Mother Love Bone...Andy Wood also was the inspiration behind the group Temple of the Dog (super group which has Chris Cornell Eddie Vetter Mike McCready etc) to honor his memory...there are also a couple of Soundgarden songs written for him...it’s a pretty amazing story with lots of layers and lots of groups to look at Also love the Candlebox song You it’s my angry driving song... Great video as always!

I really enjoyed Candlebox in the the late '90s. They were labeled "post grunge." Do yourself a favor Jamel and react to the "Understanding" video. Amazing video production!

I don't know about that label, this album came out in 93. They were a bit younger but thats about it.

@@DaveThomson Lookee here, this came from Wikipedia: "Post-grunge is a rock music subgenre that emerged in the 1990s. Originally, the term was used almost pejoratively to label bands such as Bush, Candlebox and Collective Soul that emulated the original sound of grunge. Anyways who cares, they were a great band!

Finally. Was wondering when you would get to this. To me, this is one of the greatest songs ever. Hearing those beginning chords always give me goosebumps. This isn't a song you hear, this is a song you feel. Great choice.

I loved these guys especially this album. Getting friends to try different music was tough back then in the early nineties to 2000. This is one of those bands that can attract people that don't even like rock and that says something about this bands style and the message that comes with the 🎶. I also like your comments at the end 👍 😎 🎶
