Calm down, it's not that serious. People were simply stating their opinion based on what they saw. I thought that they were just being kind of awkward, partly because they don't know Jaya that well, but who's to say I'm wrong and they are actually mean? This is the first vlog they've been in so anyone's guesses on their personalities are premature...for all we know Jayla could not like them by the end of the year.

I love you guys support but sometimes you guys over analyze and are SO NEGATIVE! Just because I'm comfortable talking to a camera doesn't mean everyone else is. Most people are camera shy but they get use to it and eventually their personality will show through. 2. Do you really think I'm going to record someone when they don't want to be on camera? That being said don't talk about my roommates. I wouldn't put anyone in my video I didn't like. 3. All the people in this video are aware that they are in this video. Talk bad about me okay cool however, I can't have y'all talking bad about other people in my videos. Duh! They will see it. *THIS WILL BE MY LAST VLOG FOR A WHILE.

I had to watch this twice to see what everybody was talking about. I saw absolutely NOTHING but people trying to get to know one another and find their way. Tf everybody talking about? Everybody was smiling the entire time and having fun.

Same I felt as though everyone was really nice and friendly. They were just kind of awkward in front of the camera at first but thats expected. But people always try to find something negative to focus on. But im happy Jaylas in my city. I hope to run into her one day maybe.

I just read your comment and others- Look at this as a growth opportunity. Meaning you are getting ready to go into the fashion industry and it is brutal. You will have to be able to deal with negativity and harsh critiques. It doesn't mean that you aren't awesome but you will never be able to please everyone and people will give your opinions and don't simply give up. Take a deep breath and enjoy your amzing life

Girl, let this be a lesson. Don't vent about your roomies on social media because as you can see, it can get misconstrued or taken out of context. With that being said, take your break from vlogging and enjoy this new experience that you are embarking on! Get to know your peers and your new city and just have fun! You're making us HBCU grads proud : )

I went to an HBCU and it's so much of a culture shock after you graduate.. it'll get better! The HBCU has a family vibe for sure and with NYC being soo big it might take time to adjust to. Good luck!!!

I also went to an HBCU as well actually I went to the same HBCU she did (UMES). She was my RA (Plaza Hall). I think going to college in general is a culture shock because I had such a hard time adjusting when I first came on campus being the only one of a few from a different state and everything being so new to me I isolated myself...than I started to warm up and get in the mix of things... it's nothing better than having the experience of attending an HBCU it's like one big family reunion 😂

+Konnie J. ahh my dream is to go a HBCU! ( I'm AA ) Im only a junior in high school right now but i live in an area where it is predominately white and mexican. It kind of sucks being like 1 out 6 black people in my school tbh. My whole life i've been around mexicans, whites or asians. I've always wanted to go to a high school with a lot of black people but that probably won't happen since ill be graduating next year. Why was going to a HBCU a culture shock? im curious to know lol.

the vibe that i'm getting from the roommates is that they're not comfortable being vlogged. can we blame them though? They didn't sign up for that when they agreed to have a roommate. I really enjoy Jayla's vlogs but I am empathetic for the roommates. So maybe she should not include them.

Exactly. They seem really nice. People are not used to a camera being in their face. Jaylas's the youtuber not them. Im sure she asked them and they agreed to be apart of her blog but that doesnt mean they are used to it. They did seem to loosen up a bit towards the end of the vlog. I think she'll be fine and she seems to be enjoying herself so far.

JAYLAAA girl I FEEEEELLLLL you! It probably is a culture shock coming from an HBCU, but the thing my grandmother always told me when I was transfered to a private school where I was one of 3 African-American girls in my grade of 50 people....(yes I graduated with only 50 people) was to stay true to yourself. You will find the right crowd to be around and the right people to become friends with. Your a loving and beautiful spirit and anyone would be lucky to be friends with you. Don't change for nobody girlfriend!!!

As a new yorker we can be a bit funny with bubbly personalities like yours Jayla, but give the roommates time to warm up to understand you and what you do....socialization is really important in college and new York it self can be a culture shock so give it time.... you'll blend in well and you'll see how quick a year goes by... all the best and welcome to NY....

GoldieAmour students usually move the beds around and make more room. and she probably got coed dorms. there’s two others named kauffman and alumni and their huge and have really good sized kitchens

Jayla, I am not sure if you will get to read this, but here it goes. I started watching you (and other youtubers) about 3 years ago. I almost never comment. However, I think it is important that you know that your videos have helped me battle depression and mental illness. Even though I have not been able to have the "traditional college life", because of my disability, I have been able to live vicariously through you! :) I have even gained the confidence to enroll into my local college (after having to stop my education 3 times before). I want to thank you for being brave enough to put yourself out there. You continue to inspire me and others like me. Awwwww Jayla I know exactly how you feel. I moved from London England to Columbus Ohio and the culture shock is REAL and I often feel like an outsider as a black girl from London working at Abercrombie and Fitch. However you have a good sense of "self" you will be ok and when you're having off days just embrace them, work through them and remind yourself of your purpose and what your came to achieve. Anyway good energy will attract good energy at the right time and you will make friends :)

She was talking about certain girls in her building that left her behind not the girl she share her room with. She also stated that in her snap as well but I see yall chose to ignore that! smh and why would she give those girls any shine anyway and put them in her vlog when they clearly don't deserve it! Of course she would share the good times she had in her vlog because she is not messy. You guys are WAY too in yall feelings about this and always ready to see some drama! Think about it, when she went through it with Dom that wasn't on the vlog either and had ppl guessing what happened but couples go through it all the time and ppl get mad when couples constantly argue and make up on social media but when she keeps that private yall get mad! Moral is, snap chat gives her the space to vent about the things she choose not to put on KZfaq so chill out!

I honestly think that vloggers create and influence the atmosphere in their comment sections. I love you Jayla and I encourage you to take responsibility. I agree that it is important to protect those who are in your vlogs, but remember that we knew NOTHING about your roommate until you mentioned her on snapchat. I think that what you said on snapchat was done in anger/frustration before you calmed down and forgave her for leaving you on multiple occasion within 3days. You didn't show or mention that you no longer was upset about that situation, thus your viewers were left with a negative impression of your roommate that YOU created. Otherwise, your viewers would've just thought that your roommate was just shy. Also, everyone did not participate in bad-talking your roommate, so going off on everyone (especially with the unconditional support some of us have given you) looks like you're choosing to neglect your supporters instead of balancing it all. Remember, your journey at FIT is only a year, but the Jayla Koriyan brand is long lasting. Lastly, I wish you well and hope that your time away from vlogging helps you to devote more time into your education and networking. Much love😘

Seriously had no weird feelings when she showed her roommates. It was a normal, new roommates, just getting to know you feeling. Maybe because I've been through that more than once but it always gets better. I have complete faith that Jayla will meet some AMAZING ppl and become tight with them!

I go to FIT so I know what you mean about not being to identify to people there. It's a bit rough but I would recommend joining BRAG and BSU. I have friends in those clubs and they love it because its people they identify. BSU also hosts fashion shows and parties which are my favorite events at school because it's with people I can relate to.

The roommates aren't trying to seem rude. Most Asian women are often secluded around non Asian woman so they give off this awkward "don't talk to me" vibe but they're really sweet once you get to know them. My dad is Korean and my cousins act like that so I'm telling from experience.

Go to Webster on a Thursday .. Ladies free. Experience it once or the Labor Day parade on the 7th. Fashion Night out is coming up. Go to the high line. DUMBO Brooklyn and the promenade. The Brooklyn Museum has a dope sneaker exhibit until October the first week.

I've seen those same three men on the subway all the time! haha! I think I told you before but I moved to NY after I graduated from Spelman almost a year ago and it was hard for the first month, but with the help of my college friends who moved here too, I was able to adapt to my new environment. I would love to show you around the city and take you to fun beauty and fashion events! :)

I can relate from NCCU to K state it was a huge culture shock! Hbcu to pwi took me awhile to get use too but I was open to diversity! I am alone lol but that's my personal choice. I know you will succeed! Peace and blessings!✌🏾️💞

After reading the comments, I thought I would comment on your transition from an HBCU. I feel like this experience will allow you to grow, not only in the fashion industry, but you will learn how to deal with different human dynamics. I would agree that some of your new friends seemed uncomfortable but that is to be expected and I am confident they will come around. In just one week (the span of the vlog), I could already sense them being more comfortable. Just do you and you will learn and grow along the way. And with a personality like yours, friends should be the least of your worries. Good luck!

Looked like you were about to cry :( Next semester I'm transferring to a PWI/C & I'm super nervous because of things like that, but maybe you should link up with some NYC youtubers like AaliyahJay..that way you'd have friends to hang with when your roomies leave or whatnot. You will do great. I remember years ago moving from the big City of Detroit to a small town in Oregon. Culture shock yes....but next year this time you will be crying because it will be hard for you as you say goodbye to those not of your cultural background. You will realize that your sisters come in all colors. The best of luck to you. My daughter is 20 and moves to Europe for her junior year on Saturday. As I told my daughter for everything there is a season, so when you feel like going home and feeling lonely, that too shall pass and everything deserves a year of trying before moving on. They will love you...give everyone a chance as they will give you.💕

it seems like ure having so much fun. i think u should give your roommates a chance to warm up to the vlogging though. bc they seemed like they were getting a little annoyed like "omg shes recording again" one girl said.
