My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlog daily, and love pizza a little too much.
Links below to Amazon are affiliate links - meaning if you click through them and buy something, I'll get some pennies. Thanks! (The FTC wants me to tell you that up front)
FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? On and off for over two years.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a "Draw My Life" video that explains a lot here: • Draw My Life
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I've made a lot of changes recently, but I try to keep my gear list up to date if you want to see what I use and buy some for yourself: bit.ly/JaysGearList
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here: • Why I Want to Live in ...
Do you speak French? Oui. • Un Jour en Francais (E...
You talk a lot about the books you're working on, what are they about? - They're sci-fi (and fantasy) and I've got a decent pitch for you here: • The Pitch (Sorta) - Ag...
Do you make money off KZfaq? - Ha, no. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $1/mo to help me make better videos: / jayswanson
I don't trust this Patreon thing - can I just paypal you? - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game): ko-fi.com/jayswanson
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. This is the US one: amzn.to/2ykS9Ux
And here's the French wishlist: bit.ly/JaysFrenchWishList
Thanks for watching!

Went there on 6/17/19! Our tickets were for the 4 pm showing and we spent about 2 hours there. The Exhibits are on a loop so if you walk in midway through one, you can stay to catch it again. I highly recommend re-watching the exhibits about 2 times. Try to watch it once on the bottom floor, and then once on the top floor. While on the bottom, walk around and view the different rooms and view the art from different angles. On the top floor, admire the view! Also, there is a Studio Bar where you can get cookies and view "Verse" in a more traditional theater-like room!

Anyone else have Hall & Oates Rich Girl stuck in their head now? 😂 I’ve seen a ton of Instastories (especially with Boomerang, lol) from a couple of months ago when my friends went to see the Van Gogh exhibit at Atelier des Lumières. I appreciated your take on it, too. “Tortured but whimsical”?? What was that about? I kinda hoped to hear more of the explanation of it. Seems your friend was not as impressed as you were. Glad you finally got to go! 👍🏼✌🏼

Jay hanging out with cute ladies, making Grandma happy =) Awesome show. This exhibition made me losing the visit window to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam much less painful. Although I still got to see the real thing soon. Sadly the day we went, my wife crashed badly and sat for the whole show, not feeling too well, so we bailed after the Van Gogh show was over missing the other two. Thankfully our Airbnb was one block up through Rue St Maur, so she just laid down for a couple hours and recovered to continue. It was our last day in Paris, so we had to move.

Hey Jay, I went a few days prior to you. I loved it, it wasn’t quite what I expected based from all the hype I saw on Instagram and Facebook a few years ago, but loved it nonetheless. After going to Giverny the last time I was in France, this just gave me more appreciation for Van Gogh. I also loved the other two shows too. Music was pretty awesome also.

I went in April. My friend & I loved it so much we sat through it twice. It's advertised as 'immersive' and that's probably the best adjective for it. All the commenters who have booked tickets will love it I'm sure. Just one thing: usually your soundtrack enhances the video but this time I felt it detracted from the visuals. Keeping the musical accompaniment to the images would have worked better this time, imho.

This looks very similar, if not the same as the Carrières de Lumières in Les Baux-de-Provence, except with that one, it's held inside an old former quarry. It has a fascinating history as it was closed as a quarry in 1935 but then Jean Cocteau filmed The Testament of Orpheus there in 1959 and it's held audio visual shows on and off there since then. I've been able to go for the last few years when visiting family in the South of France and it's always worth the day trip there to visit the quarry and the tiny hill top village of Les Baux. The quarry is huge inside and it's so atmospheric watching the show in that kind of space. They also are hosting Van Gogh and Dreamed Japan so it must be done by the same people/organisation. www.carrieres-lumieres.com/en
