Just a note for beginners... Recommend never putting Brom's in the substrate... Keep them elevated on background or wood or else they will rot in no time.

The brown clay false bottoms look much better. They fit the natural look & don’t contrast like the white. There are also new enclosures with drain ports on the bottom. Makes things so much easier. Cool video.

Nice to see you do a dart from video. I got into dart frogs after I had a 90g aquarium leak and ruin my kitchen floor. 1) you don't need spaghnum moss over the ABG. Thats super old school. Leaf litter over the abg is just fine. 2) you need a way to drain the water out of the drainage layer once it builds up.

Don’t let the temp go above 80 degrees. Anything above or at 80 will kill your dart frogs. Keep them at room temperature. Cool setup.

Great videos! As a biologist, however, my ears heart every time you said spagma moss. 🤣Spagmoss is a brand name. The moss is called sphagnum [sfag-nuhm] moss.

Hi Jay, I commented a few months ago that my channel wasn’t working, you told me to carry on going and gave me some tips... I finally hit 100 subs, thanks!!!

Just a little tip for the black mesh, next time before you install the background piece, stand the piece up on the mesh outside the tank and use a utility knife to cut to match the edges so that way all you have to do is the dimensions of the tank and the piece should drop right in. :-)

Went to a reptile expo today and almost picked up a cpl dart frogs and then realized I should probably do a lot more research first.

Looks great, Jay! All the products you used are top notch. Bioactive enclosures are the only way to go, IMHO, when keeping certain reptiles.

I absolutely rushed all of mine. They turned out amazing but I do wish I would have had patience. I went fast growing vine centric on my first I can't remember what the background looked like. My Rio cascajal love it but it is way over grown. Also obviously I put plants in the vivs that didn't go the distance for one reason or another so I had to deal with that while frogs were in the tanks.

I wish I was the 🐸!

What I do to prevent the substrate from getting to the drainage layer is; * *drum roll* * I put small river stones on the perimeter and then I put the Sphagnum moss in the cracks. By then, there’s no way any substrate is getting in!

Question. When you talk about the cycle in a viv is it just aerobic bacteria in the soil? Im an aquarium guy so this is new to me

I heard that long fibered sphagnum moss is actually bad for vivarium's because it can hold bacteria and smell bad after awhile.

Hey Jay... Quick question, I know its good to use R/O water for the misting so theres no residue... but what about RODI water? I'm planning on keeping a reef tank as well. not sure if the removing of everything out of the water is a bad thing. Thanks

How are you going to get the water out that builds up in the bottom as in my vivs I have a tap that I put in at the bottom
