With the 22H2 update, this workaround was broken. If you kill the Network Flow it will just tell you the internet crashed and restart it and circles back to the same position. INSTEAD, from the command prompt, type *OOBE\BYPASSNRO* and hit Enter. It will appear to start the entire startup process over. But, this time when you Shift+F10, it will go directly into Local Account setup.

My advice would be to get a second drive to dual boot Windows and Linux (although some distros like Pop!_OS don't work nicely with dual-booting, distros like Linux Mint do) or get a second/old computer to try out Linux first to see if you like it. You may not like it at first, as getting used to it can take time, but it's really cool doing away with the ads/tracking shenanigans, even if you go with one of the more corporate distributions like Ubuntu.

However there are a few laws here in the EU at least (GDPR recent example) that try to tackle at least privacy concerns, but they are sadly pretty hard to enforce as long as there are geographical locations these do not apply to. As going after them is nearly impossible and blocking the internet never goes well. As an example for instance there is a part of the that GDPR is the annoying popup for cookie usage on websites, which also according to the GDPR need an easy option to disable all of the cookies and it should even be defaulted to disabled. But how many sites follow that? They just make that popup as annoying as possible to agitate people in the hope they will speak up against these laws.

3:36 The problem is the law. In the US we conflate free-market economics with anarcho-capitalism, so we let the corporations do anything at all no matter the consequences. Simultaneously these "free-market economics" proponents champion trade with non-free markets where it's literally illegal for labor to be organized and forced work is perfectly legal. Don't even get me started on the environmental impacts. I just want to leave you with the knowledge that your grandparents and great grandparents didn't put up with garbage like this back in the 50s and 60s when labor was valued.

Yup, good video! For Windows 10 I run my own PowerShell script to remove/disable telemetry during my deployments for work (MDT still works great). For Windows 11, we're going to have even less control over disabling telemetry through what's provided by Microsoft and will have to resort to community-provided fixes and workarounds. And that changes at every damn build of both Win 10 and 11, just like you stated. Microsoft is in the business of big data, not end-user software as that's just a tool to collect the data.

Most people, since they are installing Windows on a consumer device, are going to go with the option to "Set up for personal use". That will bring up a screen asking you for the Microsoft Account credentials. But, by choosing the option to "Set up for work or school" and then choosing "Sign-in options" on the next screen you are now presented with the option to join a domain. Choose that one. It doesn't matter if the device you're installing Windows on doesn't belong to a corporate domain, it will work regardless. And, voila, the Microsoft Account is bypassed! *Like this comment so other people can see it.*

As a sys admin, one of the reasons network is checked/verified prior to account creation is to see if the device is present within any organizations Azure AD and Intune (MEM). If so, Autopilot can be used to provision the device to a company MDM, install apps, hybrid join to local AD, etc. Its an easy way to have an IT department order a laptop ahipped directly to a users home, as opposed to having IT image the machine in house.

As a full-time Linux user I'd love to hear that as well :D I've recently upgraded my GPU from RX580 to RX6800XT and Linux just worked after reboot. I installed an extra AMD driver for raytracing (vulkan-amdgpu-pro) and I could play Quake II RTX without even rebooting. On Windows I spent 30 minutes updating drivers and rebooting like 3 times before I could do the same thing. Sometimes things are easier on Linux. Sometimes they are not. Hibernation likes to stop working from time to time. Though Windows crashes when I suspend it, so I have to hibernate it instead. BTW: I have Windows only because Adobe won't let me activate Substance Painter on Linux with a CC subscription, and I need that for work. I could get a one-time license on Steam and use that, but my employer already got me a CC license. At least I can compare how things work between Linux and Windows I guess.

paused at 4:24 here, to say, there is a way to prepare a system even if you dont have the microsoft account, you press ctrl+shift+f3 after boot windows on that screen where it asks you the country, the account you want to use and stuff, and will restart in audit mode with the local administrator account to let you pre-install all the software, drivers and stuff, and when you finish, you use sysprep.exe (that will auto open everytime you reboots in that mode) to prepare and shutdown the machine, so when the real owner of the machine first turns it on, will ask for their credentials and they can do the process of a new out-of-the-box machine as if you had bought from dell or anything. i do that if i need to prepare a machine for a friend.

The fact that Microsoft tries to force you to create an unwanted Microsoft account is a disgusting crime. I'm sick and tired of companies that commit wanton privacy violations. Example: I bought a GM car and told them that I wanted Onstar disabled. The dealership said no. I unplugged onstar myself pysically from the car, then called them and told them not to track my car. It is disgusting and unreasonable that I have to go through that. No one should have to put up with the privacy violations at Microsoft either.

In the past I was about to start commenting in favor of linux for freedom or such. But today I predict that all these "software as a service" schemes will naturally push more and more people to linux since it is becoming a problem that majority of commercial software is slowly transitioning to this "service" schemes either by spying on you, serving ads or monthly subscriptions. Linux will remain the only island where traditional "install and use forever" software will remain. Maybe with less features or clunky as linux can be, but still last way of keeping control over your PC and data.

Linux is like avalanche, once enough people jump on it then it will start to get more support, get better even faster, and thus the avalanche effect. Proprietary software companies like Microsoft have done active trashing of Linux for a long time, and thus the myth of toxic Linux community prevails. When it's one of the best communities out there, as every single new user benefits the whole community and thus people are really helpful. Obviously in any group of millions of people there are the rotten apples, but the amount of those people is tiny AF and irrelevant.
