The anchor tonguing is good for this half tonguing sound where you do not really need a full attack. I sometimes uses it in ballad playing. At the moment I am practicing 16th and double time - here I am only using much more direct articulation

Thank you Floaty10. I myself had lots of trouble getting my articulation right. I struggled with this for a long time without knowing what the problem was. So I have practiced articulation a lot - also where the most efficient articulation is. I myself have worked with tonguing from the tip of the tongue and hitting the reed one to two cm from my the tip of the tongue. I have also worked with double tonguing, but do not master it fully. I think I use both types of normal tonguing, anchor and "normal" when I play. Do you have any specific question about this technique?

SorenBallegaardMusic thank you for your reply. I have some difficulties with fast swing articulation/double tonguing. I was wondering if anchor tonguing was a viable option to using the tip or or do you think it could end up becoming a bad technique. I ask as I’ve only just come across this anchor tonguing? @@floaty10 What I did when I learned this was just starting very slowly and getting the articulation into a routine, picking up the tempo. Check the video how to speed up your technical exercises which are in the comments above. What is also very important to mention is that at a certain tempo you do not play swing anymore but straight. So you fingers do not play swing feel. Only the articulation on the second eight note of two stays. And even that is at high speed not always applicaple. I remember using hours and hours practising articulation, picking up the speed with 1bpm pr day for month. Just perfecting it. I do not use double tonguing on any jazz articulation. Only single articulation. Double tonging I only use for some effects. Let me know if its usefull. Cheers

The potato articulation is like other forms of articulation - you start with your tongue on the reed and blow. So you start with no sound till you pull your tongue away - this happens in a split second. You tie two notes and then add the tongue after you have played the two notes. Exercises to practice this is go slow - very slow. When you play your chords or scales you can apply this articulation. Please let me know if this helps you :) All the best

Hi Al, Great question. About the articulation. I think you refer to the articulation of a scale - for example the ones I mention in the video. The common jazz articulation is is indeed an articulation on the off off-beat 8th note. But you can always and should articulate what you think fits in the music. Often an articulation is placed on something you want to emphasize in the music. Lots of big band music has articulations all over. You can also refer to this as phrasing - where you emphasize a part or a great note using articulation. Let me know if you got the answer you were looking for? All the best - Søren

Hi Skellig Ring - You are completely right. Due to beginners gear and lacking knowledge at the time of the recording I was unable to get the sync in place on a lot of the older videos.
