Lesson tutorial - open voicings (spread voicings) on this great jazz ballad. It's easy to find the real book chart online but here's a link I found - music.arts.uci.edu/dobrian/f14...
Here are the chords I played. open voicing

I know it's an old video, but KZfaq just showed it to me. Thanks! I may have to try this one out myself. Loving Real Books. I think I'm up to about 5 or 6 of them now. I particularly appreciate the "how I got good at playing jazz" thoughts. I played classical and a lot of traditional church music for years (decades) so while I have a pretty solid set of basic keyboard skills, a lot of the frills, runs, "flibbityjibbits", interesting little stuff like that associated with "jazz", stuff that's easy for you to pass over, still elude me way more than I wish they did. So if you ever decide to do a video on "flibbityjibbits", you can bet I'll watch it many times! Jazz is moving into my life, including some live gigs so I very much appreciate your videos Tony!! Thank you!

Helpful video, good song choice for this tutorial. I especially benefited from the explanation of "Alt" and adding other altered notes. Thanks for taking the time to created and post this video.

You might want to consider editing this. When you play the song the first time, on bar #5 of the bridge, you play Ab as the melody note. It's A natural. (The key signature is F.) You get it right later in the video, but for anyone familiar with the tune, that Ab is really jarring.

Tony: Thanks so much. I love your channel. After all the musical guidance you have given me, I would like to offer some to you: CHECK OUT CEORA by Lee Morgan, with Herbie Hancock on piano. An underappreciated gem, in my opinion. Looking forward to your next post........

Cool video and wonderful song. But go back a few pages in your real book… Butterfly by Herbie Hancock is a great track. Ceora is also beatiful, which I have heard many times played by Steve Grossman when he lived for a while in my town in the nineties.
