In this video we will explore the concept and the use of guide tones.
The guide tones are the 3rd and 7th of a chord, and determine whether a chord is major, minor, or dominant. They are also called "rootless shells". We can play the guide tones in the left hand to harmonize a melody, or we can play them in the right hand to comp for exemple with a walking bass in the LH.
