*Fun Fact:* John Steinbeck is a pencil addict. The author started writing session with 24 pencils He adored the most famous Blackwing Pencil, but he also favored the Mongol 480. It's said that he used 300 pencils to write _East of Eden_ and 60 for _Grapes of Wrath_ and _Cannery Row._

Part of the reason people like to use actual pencils over mechanical pencils is the variety of line quality you can achieve with a single tool by also using the SIDE of the pencil lead. It’s a different style of drawing from what Jazza does though. And that’s totally ok!

@Jazza The surfer one is weird but there’s actually a reason why they do it. They highlight influential people/places by creating a pencil that respects what they/it have done. There’s the Blackwing 24 that was made in tribute to John Steinbeck using the pencils to write his books. The Blackwing 811 pays tribute to all of the libraries of the world. And so on. Love the video and gotta love these pencils. The best in the world.

My mom (a musician) swears by the Blackwing pencils to mark her music, because it’s dark so it’s easy to see on the sheet music, but it also comes with really good erasers, so you can erase super easily (which is very important in music). (And yes, if you don’t press down super hard, you still get dark lines that are perfectly erasable.)

One compare/contrast test would be loss of lead in sharpening. Quality pencils should NOT break down in sharpening so that you wind up wasting 1/3 of the pencil in the first sharpening. So, comparing lead loss w/ each sharpening is valuable for me.

I think, it's not about the pencil, it's about how pencil and individual hand pressure work together. I was highly unsatisfied with pencils in general, until I've started to use H2-H3 drawing pencils from AliExpress for both writing and sketching. Because I'm extremely heavy handed, this hardness works with me the best. Using kneaded eraser with them also works wonders. And the most satisfying thing, after almost 2 years I broke a lead, maybe once, so there's no waste of pencil lead. On a side note I really love The Tale Teller. There's even some fanfiction brewing. Thank you for this work.♥️

Been using these branded pencils and I will NEVER return to other pencils such as Faber Caswell. Just perfect quality, shading contrast controls, long pencil barrel, shiny outcome on certain paper, and finally looking premium. My drawing kit includes the Matte, Pearl and the 602. I used them all three in every illustration, giving me a wider range of shading contrast. I have not tried other 2, but will consider if I can get hold of them. I say these are one of the BEST pencil brands in the world you can get.

I think blackwing pencils should definitely get into the mechanical pencil arena, those erasers are dope AF and super useful.

My first Blackwing pencil was actually a hand-me-down from a teacher in college. It was so great it was the ONLY PENCIL I managed to keep through the whole year (and as someone that is so heavy handed that I break mechanical pencils as well as a scatter brain that has to have 20 pens so I don't go to class without a writing tool- that says alot!) I couldn't find a replacement set in my local craft store so I was heart broken when I used up the pencil. Also- had NO IDEA you could replace the eraser. I'm going to go use up all my current pencils so I can get my Blackwings back. And so I use them productively I think I'll take on your character design class Jazza I have a DnD party to design! Peace!

(ATTENTION JAZZA) It would be a fun and exciting video if you drew your family as a team of superheroes like your son and wife and you in a group with poses wearing superhero clothing with capes and masks belts and buckles and you name yourself and your family like give them superhero names and maybe get someone to make it in real life and get you and your son and wife to actually wear it and take a photo and using #superheros or something :)

I still have half a pearl from my College animation class almost 2 years ago. Its..a pencil. To this day, I still use dollar store pencils while sketching. I sometimes use mechanical, but I break them too often. I rarely notice a difference in pencils, but I hate hard leads. I suppose since I'm not a pencil specific artist, it doesn't matter to me.

@@Brown614 that's the kind of thing women wear when they're trying to look cute, but make it look like they haven't put any effort into doing so (but they totally have). Have you tried struggling into skinny jeans? They are not comfy. Comfy is a pair of sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt/hoody, no bra, and wearing socks and/or slippers if you bother to wear anything on your feet at all.
