The "ugly phase" tip is really helpful for people who are just starting with art or don't do as much of it. I have been doing art for a really long time but I don't do it nearly often enough so as a result I still get discouraged at the ugly phase sometimes, even when I know I shouldn't. For me it usually passes later on in a piece so by the time I get through it, my heart isn't in it anymore which is a shame because after I finish a piece of art, I am usually pretty satisfied with the results. It might come from sketching which I do a lot more of compared to other media and since it's a quick form, the ugly phase isn't an issue. And when I do digital painting it's much, much slower (many hours of work).

@jakemalloy
@jakemalloy 3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelwise1224 Actually it's the other way around. 1/2 the height would be 1/8 the volume (amount of clay). Half the clay would mean roughly 8/10 the height, but as you say, the armatures throw that off a bit.

Have you seen master sculptors? I hate to break it to you, but Jazza is an average artist. actual masters have nearly or perfected their craft at this age already. Jazza is a jack of all trades kind of artist. Not taking away anything from his success though. He's doing what he enjoys for a living, and that I think that's the peak of living. However, "master" is an overstatement.

I would like to see him do a sculpture with 2 part epoxy, to show how much the prep phase matters when sculpting on a limited time scale since it cures. It sounds somewhat corny, but no joke, he is on a much higher level compared to Bob ross. Constantly innovating and expanding the art mediums, challenging him self, using all sorts of different materials, as well as non art intended materials to create an excellent end result, it's fantastic. This is why it's quite sad that he doesn't already have 10 mill subs, 20 mill subs, because he is genuinely changing the art world, probably making the biggest impact on the arts that humans have ever known, and yet people either don't understand how difficult and impressive this all is to do, or they just don't care. To me it's quite sad. You don't have to love something, but you should show some respect for it.

Bob Ross is known for speaking softly, staying calm, and pretty much painting the same thing all the time. He must have been bored to death with that job. I wonder what other types of art, or mediums he used in his free time. All artists seem to go through phases, and I cant' imagine he didn't. But he had to do beginner level stuff for decades for that TV show Jazza is nothing like Bob, Inspiring yes, but none of the other things.

@@Camila-qm1vu nested recursion is a function that calls itself, regular recursion is just a loop or repetition. Nested recursion would be suitably described by this sculpture as it creates little versions of itself that create little versions of themselves to perform a task.

7:20-7:49 Awww, a man and his sculpture, there's something so magical about it. I always did wonder what people did with clay that made it worth getting those little packs of colours at the hobby store. This has been really enlightening to how far those little chunks can go.
