Jazz F@nck Quartet is a progressive project that performs original jazz music in its contemporary forms: neo-jazz and hop-jazz.
Started in 2014, Jazz F@nck Quartet plays the music inspired by the art of such great Masters as Robert Glasper, Troy Roberts, Roy Hargrove, Janek Gwizdala and others.
Since 2016 the quartet included:
Dmitry Semenov - tenor saxophone.Evgeny Ponomarev / Ilya Shcheklein - keyboards.Grigory Voskoboynik - bass.Peter Mikheev - drums.
All the band members are well-known professional musicians, leaders of their own projects. Three of them are composers and are responsible for the quartet’s repertoire.
Aside from playing their usual instruments, the musicians actively include some modern technology into their performance - drum triggers, vocoders etc.
Jazz F@nck Quartet regularly performs at a number of popular clubs and venues across St. Petersburg and Moscow including the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater, “ESSE” and “JFC” jazz clubs, “The Bottle House” of the New Holland. The band toured in Estonia in 2016 and participated in a showcase program of the first edition of JAZZ ACROSS BORDERS forum in St. Petersburg (2017). The quartet is also known as one of the BRODSKY DRIVE festival residents.
The recording sessions for the “Isolation Situation Violation” album began in the end of 2019 at “Galernaya 20” Studio in St. Petersburg, starting with the drums and the entire “Three Or Six” track by Evgeny Ponomarev. Later musicians continued their work on other tracks, recording their instruments remotely in their own home studios. Mixing took as long as three months. Mainly due to a long search for the right sound, parts editing, partial substitution of the live drums and using the electronic ones instead, and some other aspects. The work has been completed in May, 2020 - right at the peak of COVID-19 pandemic which inspired the album title.
