This is such an important documentation of the genius of Joan, of his students, and what's clear also the Barcelona jazz and music scene that makes it all possible. The enthusiastic support from the people of Barcelona is very heartening to see. Thank you Ramon Tort.

Fantastic. Thanks also Ramon Tort for your contribution to this team project all the way. Without your soundless instrument, your camera and pictures, the Joan's experiment had not been the same.

Hats off to Ramon Tort and David Casamitjana for excellent audio throughout. I know from my own experience that covering a music festival with interviews over a period of days inside multiple venues with variable weather outside is an absolute post-production nightmare unless you plan ahead and have a separate sound recordist/data wrangler ... and even then it's hard! The music itself is great, with lots of SAJB appearances, but I can't help noticing the lack of females on stage that are not vocalists, when we see the other bands at work (with the notable exception of SAJB member Magali Datzira 10:14 and a woman pianist 08:56 accompanying some dancers). I think it's going to take a generation to change this, but Joan and his graduates are making the first step. R (Australia)

This is the real deal. What a display of talent. Mr. Chamorro deserves a great amount of praise for taking these kids to a near professional level at such young ages. Awesome!!!!

Just subscribed. Really enjoyed the documentary, great jazz and brilliant cinematography please can we have English subtitles?
@branscombeR3 жыл бұрын
@Chris Dyson: About calls for English language sub-titles for SAJB video interviews with Joan and others ... As a film and TV producer with substantial experience of 're-versioning' videos in foreign languages, I think I can say with some authority that it's a bit of a minefield. First, who owns the video in question? In this case it seems to be the film-maker, Ramon Tort, or possibly the SAJB itself. Whoever produced it owns the copyright, which means it can't be changed in any way without their permission. Inserting sub-titles that they haven't approved would be regarded as a breach of their copyright and whoever is the registered owner of this KZfaq channel would be liable. Second, as I'm sure many people don't realise, translating is not a simple matter of substituting one English word for one in Spanish or Catalan. It's a skilled job requiring a deep understanding of both languages and the subject-matter, particularly if it's technical (example: music). Artificial Intelligence is not yet up to the job. Just try to auto-translate speech audio live through Google Translate on this video and despair at the barely intelligible mess it makes! [see: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qtl7rd2FnNLGY6M.html for an instructional video about how to do this] However, the good news is that, once the copyright issues have been resolved, technically it's not that difficult for the youtube channel owner to install subtitles in English or multiple languages. You produce a translated text with time codes to indicate where each line starts and finishes ... bearing in mind that a sentence in Catalan may translate into more or less words of English on-screen. Joan Chomorro or his web manager uploads the file to this site and 'English' appears as an option in the sub-titles. Realistically, for a KZfaq site as extensive and dynamic as this one, it's practically a full-time job for an expert linguist. R (Australia)

So much of the output from Sant Andeu is really happy music, and sung in the older style rather than the depressing wailing of in much commercial pop ("Sunny side of the Street") and of course the diction is so much better. And so good to hear tributes form the stage for the contribution to music of Joan Chamorro. Also good to know there is a Carla Motis Trio !

I dreamt I was playing in a salsa band and the pianist was playing a two note montuno that kept repeating "dant, dant...dant, dant" but when we go to the bridge it didn't fit there so i said "hey man you gotta change up on the bridge but he just kept doing it. Then i woke up with my alarm clock going "dant, dant...dant, dant" hahaha!
