I feel you. I had to recently make the choice between saving for a ps5 and finally getting my hands on an (albeit used) PS4. I went with the latter choice because I still have a lot I want to play on it to tide me over and because of the fact that for awhile it will be hard to even get my hands on one of these (and that time can also be used to save up to the point where I can comfortably buy one). If anything when I finally am able to get a ps5 at least I'll already have a PSN set up and data to go on it considering it is backwards compatible at least.

I think they did the 8K to future proof it, its almost guaranteed that within the next 7 years 8K monitors will be commonplace. They had an issue with the PS4(and XB1) where they didn’t really think about 4K and so had to make Upgrades. (Xbox one X etc.) so by putting it to 8K they won’t have to make big updates in the future
