Tip: get sports towels!! You can get really big ones, they might cost a little more than normal towels but they dry incredibly fast and even the massive ones compact so much so they save a lot of space

Make sure your school actually allows tide pods! My school only allows a certain type of detergent because of the washer types! Also invest in dryer balls instead of dryer sheets!

I have wood flooring so I re-used the dryer sheets on a swiffer to pick up pieces of paper and hair.

Also adding to this!! Some schools washers won’t get hot enough to melt the film on detergent pods and could ruin your clothes so it might be better to just get liquid/powder detergent anyways!

Tip: if you don’t want to use paper plates/plastic utensils, buy nice bowls plates cups and mugs and silver/steel utensils at a thrift store because it is so much cheaper and you can buy a couple sets that are unique so people don’t steal them from you and if they do then it didn’t cost you that much.

i know this is an older comment but for anyone else starting college this fall, you can also get stuff like silverware, plates, food containers, etc for super cheap at a dollar store. if you’re not someone who shops at dollar stores a lot you might not realize how much useful stuff they have so definitely just check it out in general as well. just try and look for some microwaveable plates/bowls or whatever over non-microwavable stuff.

side note, Goodwill is great for cheap glassware, things like plates and cups and stuff, as well as furniture like tables, and potentially chairs. I would also make sure to check out yard sales, for glass wear, and just thrift shops/second-hand stores

Also bring a sleep mask (like the ones that cover your eyes) so if your room mate is up late studying you dont have to worry about the lights keeping you up

I’m a senior so idk why I’m here I just liked the thumbnail haha. My advice is to not buy all of the stuff before you get there. Especially consumables like snacks and laundry detergent. Just buy it when you get there!! There are probably stores near your college!! :)

I'm not anywhere remotely close to college, but I'm writing a notebook full of college tips for my future self, like easy recipes, good food, things I need, money tips, dorm room/roommate tips, places to shop for specific things, etc. I know I'll need it because I'm not an organized person at all and I don't think ahead, so it will be handy to have a notebook full of advice from money saving to making friends.

id probably bring a keurig, toaster, and microwave. paper plates/utensils seem the simplest to manage. id also bring a safe for my food because i dont want anybody taking from my stash.

A lot of colleges don’t allow toasters so watch out for that. And like the commenter above me said, even if you’re not concerned about single use items, they actually take more work to manage and space. Be careful with safes because even though you’re saving food, people might think there’s valuables and try to break into it

Most colleges don't allow toasters (open heat coils) but an air fryer is a great option to bring instead!

it seems like 8th grade was yesterday :,) I'm now a freshman in college TRUST ME time flies by! my advice to you is don't waste time being sad, go out on the nights you don't feel like it, and don't worry about trying to mature or grow up fast because you're still just a kid so make it count and have fun

thankfully my dorm actually gives you your own rooms, they definitely aren't big, they only have enough room for a bunkbed and maybe a small lounge chair or desk and they're connected to a very small bathroom (when I say small I mean it) and you usually only get 1 or 2 roommates

We just got my sisters schools dorm list and on the not allowed was pepper spray which she has been caring since she was 11 (and has used it) when she saw it she just looked at me and was like I'm taking it anyway unfortunately the school she chose dose not have any security stations throughout the campus and only has 5 security guards that rotate throughout the week so there's not always one on pepper spray is deffenitly a must for anyone going to college

some colleges give them out once you move in. i got mine from the front desk of my dorm building, so check out all of the places you'll need to go (front desk, laundry room, etc.) pretty soon after you finish unpacking because they might have things the college is giving away for free

Good luck with that! I would just remember that it is a stress filled day for everyone. When I moved in, I was totally freaking out and I had an RA help me calm down and rationalize everything so I could move it. It will definitely be a change, but just remember that you can problem solve in order to make things work for you. Also, side note. I needed a fan, but I didn't buy one until after I got there. If you forget anything, you most likely will be able to pick it up somewhere or have it mailed to you. And bring pictures of people you love or things that inspire you. I did that and it helped me regain a good perspective

Please don’t bring plastic/paper plates. Bad for the environment plus you’d have to keep buying more. Just bring reusable bowls, cups, utensils, plates. And this is coming from a college junior.
