I love the L100’s but the price is just more than I myself am willing to pay but these are so close and the price I feel is very reasonable considering what you’re getting so I believe I just found my next pair of speakers. The original woofer of the 4312 was the 2213H, it never had a foam but a impregnated paper suspension.

Over the years I owned the 4311's, L36 Decades, and the Century 100's, all of them seriously kicked Ass!

I bought the 4313g I love it. I listen mostly to movie scores, classical, and jazz. It’s a bit too big and loud for my room. It is a small room but ehhh what the heck yolo y’know.

I recently bought a set from Upscale. These speakers rock and the cd they send with them has some killer tracks. These are amazing speakers for the price. Very compact size with a 12” woofer. These baby’s are heavy at 50 pounds a piece. The box is solid no vibration. The highs are lovely and precise. The driver is stout and I’m still breaking it in. My cheap amp barely moved the driver 😂.. the mirror image set up makes for numerous positions .. on the fence ?? Buy a pair from upscale he has a return policy if you don’t like them .. you’ll love em ! I sure do !!

at one time, i wanted to be Duane Eddy BUT he was quickly supplanted by Link Wray. i later imagined myself as the lead guitar player for the Ventures. speaker positioning varies of course by the speaker on hand. when i had stacked Dynaco A25s, i put them horizontally stacked ont their shipping boxes painted flat black, with the (un mirrored) tweeters inside. if you know the sound of that speaker, you know the tweeters don't go up past ~14kHz so i added a pair of Philips clear plastic domes that i got from mark silver, above 10k. n addition, the lows were fat so i employed and ADC 5 band eq with the two lowest bands attenuated to around -4db. TIGHT they were and harry james DTDs were quite impactful. those were fun days of learning and experimentation. i am not a fan of the sound of the OG L100s but loved those waffle grills. the new model sounds better by almost a magnitude which isn't enough to entice a buy. the new stands are mandatory for sound and visual beauty. i mostly lean toward the old east coast sound as interpreted by Andrew Jones or Arnie Nudell or Richard Vandersteen. ..hifitommy

I would go with the pro LSR version because they're mirror imaged pairs. I hate those speakers that are just 2 right speakers, or left speakers as a "stereo" pair.

So 4312G is better than 4312SE? When I compare the drivers used in modern 4312se 4312g L100 75th and l100 classic models it’s such a mix between all of them. And wonder if the prices are worth it? Not comparing to vintage.

Which JBL factory did you visit, then. They used to be in the SF Valley. RSL, Howard Rogers speaker company at the time made some L-100 clones, the 3300, 3600, and 3800s.

Great speakers, goes well with rock music(foremost) and jazz but even electronic/dance music sounds very good. Choose an amp with loudness-control to bring out the most of the bass. These speakers are fairly easy to drive so a relatively cheap amp goes a long way. I have a Yamaha as301 60 watts per channel with adjustable loudness-control for about 420 dollars. Sounds great with these JBL speakers.

Is this is a review of a speaker -- or a review of the chap talking? I am 3 minutes into this -- and he did not say a single word about the 4312-G. Oh well, whatever. Anyhow, with JBL Synthesis retiring (discontinuing) speakers at an alarming rate, as of May 2021 this is still available form them. For how long -- now that's another question entirely. Presently they are "on sale" for $1,750 a pair, so that is a major $750 price reduction form their usual $2,500 a pair price. Does this mean than they will soon be discontinued by JBL? Probably. Also, for about 1/3rd of the JBL's price, you can get a pair of Magnat Transpuls speakers. The Magnat Transpulses come with either 10-inch or 15-inch woofers.

What bugs me about these speaker systems is for their cost they only provide bass to 44Hz and that is at -6dB's. I see why they're called "studio monitors". Sorry, not for my money.

Had the original 4312’s. About 8 years ago sold them and bought Focal Electras. Same VTL amp, forgot them almost immediately. No comparison. I would not buy JBL at all.
