Appreciate all your effort on youthman channel. I'm sure your you've been asked this 100x, why don't more people rave about cbt. In front room situations which most people have, they seem perfect. With a tv and no treatment, which cbt do you recommend, jbl, 50, 100, 70 or 1000. Especially as you have to have the center horizontal under the tv. Room 20x16x8 and 50/50 music/movies

Hi Jonathan, interesting test, but it seems to be not fair comparing 2 speakers when they are not on the same position vertically. When measuring each seat position, the Sony speaker is mostly covered by the seat. I am confident if you only turn the Sony speaker upside down (and leave the tweeter on ear axis) it will sound more loud and coherent on all seats. This way it will be also closer to the Dolby specification. Or did I miss something? Cheers.

Hi @pulDag , at timestamp 01:47 you can kind of see where the Sony tweeter is in reference to the chair tops. Use the trim board on the walls as a reference height. The chair backs are just a tad over the height of the board, and the Sony speaker tweeter is at the top of the speaker, 8-10” higher than the chair tops or so. My thought in this test was placing the tweeter of the traditional speaker at ear height, which is what is most commonly recommended and it just so happens that’s where it is. Those are Berkline chairs and they are a deep chairs, so most people’s ears end up about that height (or likely lower). Seems like all the current direction on the forums with Atmos and ceiling speakers is to lower the side surrounds, so there is maximum separation with the ceiling channels. Just this week someone suggested I lower my CBT speakers for that reason. I explained that would go against the technical design of the CBT speaker, and I’d rather raise it than lower it. I already raised them about 6” from where I started with them, but I don’t have the ceiling headroom to put them as high as would be most optimal. So those were my thoughts on choosing the placement for this video test.

using these array speakers as surrounds .... should an individual be concerned with using different brand of speakers for the LCR or is this not an issue?

Friend of mine uses these as surround and JBL 4722N as LCR and loves it.

Hey, do you have an opinion on the monolith thx towers without atmos. I think ill be able to get a pair for under 1000 bucks with sales soon. Funny thing is im replacing b&w speakers but they are too small. Measurments and reviews are great. Have you heard these?

I have not heard the monolith towers, but I read good things about pretty much all monolith products. The guy at monoprice who is behind monolith products is an enthusiast and only adds things to the line he himself would love to own and be proud of, so I’m pretty confident they are of reasonable quality. We interviewed him once on the youthman poscast. It was a neat show.

Hey Jonathan, I'm looking to order that arched acoustic foam for my theater room, and I'm wondering if the material is squeezable like a sponge or is it rigid? Also, can you tell me the dimensions of one of the individual pieces? Thanks in advance!

Sorry I missed this! The foam is about 5.5" wide by 16" tall. It's dense foam. They ship it vacuum packed and compressed, but it's much denser than like a cheapo 1" or 2" acoustic foam I've sometimes encountered. It works well.

what amp are driving these array speakers ?

I am using Crown 8|300N amps. Two, for 15 channels at 300 watts per channel. They are 92.5dB sensitive at 1 watt (third party verified) so you could drive them off the AVR alone in reality.
