The volume knobs are for input sensitivity, you can get the exact same amount of spl out of them regardless of the "volume" pot. just depends on the output level of your mixer etc

I just heard these in the store. I am really interested. However kinda skeptical on relying on an app for xover/eq. Wish they had dedicated knobs for this

JBL PRX subs pack an awesome amount of bass into a lightweight cab. What a shame that JBL sabotaged their PRX line with their clumsy, braindead PRX Connect app. Everything about this app is misguided and awkward, starting with the manual wifi connection and ending with the clueless PRX-only speaker configuration setup. Fortunately, the sub can be used with the minimal back-panel controls as a stand-alone sub, but if you ever need to do a custom EQ/time align setup, prepare to waste more tim than you expect. Also, the total absence of customizable limiter controls is INEXCUSABLE.

i was seriously considering the 800 series but after watching the video at around 5 minutes in im amazed that for the kind of money JBL are charging i would have liked the top box to sit central on the pole, like most other manufactures that try to design a top box with monitor capability's the cab never looks "straight" always appear the lean to the left, maybe only 1 in thousand performers would even notice it, same story with QSC K series...........
@d.j.raphiki4279

Donna Webber they definitely aren’t cheap! The slight tilt it seems was only in 1 of my speakers. I’ve since fixed that with a small strip of gaffers tape to make the top of the pole more snug. Good eye by the way. I started to notice that a few months after getting them. You are able to use these as a monitor and a main speaker

Very good review bro. You're very detailed and talk clear. I am getting back into Dj'ing so will eventually be needing new speakers so I am reviewing all the main brands ( JBL, QSC, Peavey, RCF etc. ). I just bought a set of Pioneer PLX-1000's and the Pioneer DJM S9 battle mixer. AWESOME GEAR!

Hi from the Philippines! Just bought a pair of jbl prx815 theres a huge difference using prx800 connect specially the new update. The sound is so balance and wow sounds good. Any advice how to not blow the speaker using the app. Sorry for my english
@d.j.raphiki4279
@d.j.raphiki4279 5 жыл бұрын
Ryan Mendoza it’s best to not push them too much via the app. To be honest they sound great fresh out the box without any adjustments in my opinion. The best way to make sure they stay good is to test it out at home first and try it where you can keep an eye on the limit light on the back. I almost never have mine come on. If you are running these with an external sub you won’t need to do adjustments and even more so if you are using this as part of a DJ rig.

Nice Review. I had these speakers (prx812w) since they came out last year and used them for several gigs already and they are really nice if you know how to use them. I also was playing aroung with the wifi control for a while until I got the best sound that satisfied my ears. Overall I think the highs and mids are crystal clear and only nedded more bass therefore I added a bit more bass playing around with the EQ's. Not sure how you blew them, but definetly I do not want to do that. :) Also, before I purchased them I was about to buy the K12's and had them tested at guitar center side by side and honestly these have better highs and mids in my oppinion. The K12's have more low end but their highs and mids at a high volume was hurting my ear. Even the guy at guitar center who claims to be a big fan of QSC accepted these sound better, so good purchase my friend.

Abraham Diaz yeah I've heard the QSC brand before at a number of places. They do sound great. The KW series might have been a better comparison IMO. I do agree that it can use more bass at times but when using them if you are near a wall you don't have that problem. I use them 80% of the time with the sub so I don't mind it. As far as the Connect App like I said I'm not sure what I did but it definitely blew out 2 and probably would have blown out all if I didn't turn half of them off. Love the speakers and subs. Would definitely recommend them. I've used the complete setup at a few outdoor gigs so far and have gotten tons of compliments.

Easily! Did an event at a park with just this setup for about 70-80 people. Sound travels well. If you can be in the proximity of a wall it’ll help to enhance the sound. Even without you’ll be able to handle a crowd of 200 with your proposed setup. My only suggestion is to try to keep your equipment covered or in the shade throughout your event. The fans do an awesome job of keeping them from overheating but even still they get very hot to the touch with direct sunlight.

The volume on the back of any jbl is meant to be put wide open. Main reason I think is cause most use the app and control settings that way or like my self have a system processor such as the DBX Driverack PA2. With that I can turn down volumes remotely and do all of my crossover and compressor settings.... You get true SPL output that way...

Jesse J Ojo make sure you have the output from your mixer going to the sub’s input and use the through or hi pass to connect the tops. If you turn the sub all the way to about 3 o’clock (which is where I have it) you’ll get the best performance from it. I’ve had cheaper setups before and it took getting used to with the gains being so high.

joekoolz377 as a rule of thumb if the limit light only comes on on the hard bass hits and goes off then you are ok. If it's a constant on then you should lower it. Also make sure you don't have it on the mic input. Even though it's louder not sure how safe it'll be for the amp. You can mess with it but you'll definitely need to turn the gain down considerably to make sure it's not maxing out the amp

It works it only comes on when they are getting warm. If you touch the amp on the back and it’s not hot then that’s the reason the fan isn’t on. If the amp is hot and the fan isn’t kicking on then you have something to worry about. The older versions fan was a constant on and produced a noise that you could hear.

Roberto Esquivel they are good but you will still need a sub. They better isolate the different EQ bands seeing as there is a speaker for the high mid and low. If you can afford them get it but I think the 815 is more than enough.

Los Betos D Sinaloa when you say crystal clear what are you referencing? I had some cheap Behringer speakers before and they were loud but if you compare to that it won't sound as good. I have my gains on the speakers at almost the 3 o'clock position and when I'm DJing I hear other instruments in the songs I never heard before. Also make sure that the signal going to the speakers is not clipping as well. On these you'll notice the clipping since the actual sound is a better quality than other cheaper brands.

Typical crap review as usual from people. It seems no-one knows how to review speakers properly, you review speakers by letting people listen to them on camera to get SOME kind of idea what they sound like and I say some because camera microphones are rubbish. You also review the speakers by mentioning what their clarity is like, how clear do they sound in the vocal frequency range, how clear is the punch from kick drums, is there are muddiness in the kick drums, what's the high frequency like, is it loud and clear or is it a little harsh on the ears etc...What's the overall sound like is it a clear sound or is it a slightly more linear sound meaning do the speakers sound more like studio monitors. You also measure the SPL output of the speaker using a class 2 calibrated SPL meter mounted on a microphone stand at exactly one metre away from the front grilles. If a speaker is active you test and mention how easy the DSP is to use if it has settings that can be changed, how heavy are the speakers in kilograms, people will want to get some idea how are they for lifting onto speaker stands. How the handles are placed are they placed are they well placed making the speakers easy to pick up. Some handles on speaker cabs aren't great so picking them up is not easy. How much electric do the speakers use at full tilt, you measure that by connecting the speakers to a plug electric meter. What are the grilles like, are they reasonably strong'ish or very strong, customers will need to know that incase anything gets dropped onto the grilles when moving the speakers or if they get accidentally kicked as someone stands near them. Reviews have to be intensive or they're useless to potential customers.

I agree! The app is probably by far the worst part of the speaker system. I don’t even use it. I have used them for so long that I know where to set the gains so that I can get the most out of them without clipping. Also once I started using the front hole on the bottom of the speaker to slant them down when playing above the dance floor that alone helps with the sound as well.
