I find it quite hard to get tractor experience though. My only way so far was through getting a job milking, then i found other people approached me regarding odd tractor jobs but never came to nothing major as the milking was and still is good money...very good actually, I hope straw contractors are willing to take on people that are willing to learn, listen and do good work and not just have had experience in chasing...at the end of the day everybody has done it for the first time.

Awsome video! Really enjoyed it! I see these set ups go past during summer and pass a load when carting to and from the yard. Another farm i work on have here own chaser behind a MF 6480 it works really well! Im also at College on a level 3 engineering course at Risholme College Lincolnshire! And again awsome video! Cheers Harry!

Hey Hywel, one of the biggest bale contractors i know of is Charlie Rand who is based at Royston, He supplies straw to a local power station and employs about 15 harvest workers, i'm pretty sure he uses chasers and has up to date kit, Good luck with your first year at Harpur, what course are you taking?

Cheers. No starting on the 25th. When qualifeided i would like to work for the likes of Deere, AGCO or JCB etc...designing or R&D. Would love to do the harvest work though as would be good to do some 'dash for the cash' in the summer and have always wanted to haul grain / straw up in England.

Does it have air brakes can you compete against road trucks with that outfit without an operators licence how far can you run with that combination is it restricted to a certain radius from the farm?
@tweeny559 жыл бұрын
Of course there are limits such as a maximum range on red diesel,tractors are only supposed to do 20mph ish etc etc but these are not the laws our police choose to enforce.It's easier for them to pick on cars.Plod could spend all day nicking farmers if they chose to-80% of combine header trailers are unbraked therefore illegal
@dieselrulesKO9 жыл бұрын
all above is true, however as far as choosing to haul with a tractor, its much ore expensive than a truck on the road, has less power, and is harder to control

Thanks allot. i found a great site called 4xtrahands which is a great place to find farm/driving work. Just trying to get more experience, hopefully get more at harper. Like I've done slurry tanking, stone carting, bale carting and silage carting but not enough to say that i am 'experienced'...wouldn't want to lie and get caught out. I am doing Agricultural Engineering 5 year Masters course.

Yep haha. i found with a 16ton silage trailer the lean was freaking me out, I just think to myself its big because its that high up haha. Would love to do either chasing or carting of big bales summer 2014 after my first year at Harper. If you know of any contacts who would be looking for seasonal staff please let me know, it's a dream I wish to fore fill (I am from Pembrokeshire which is dairy county and there is no arable on this sort of scale, need to get away ;) )

Just a car licence, The gvw is the same as any other tractor on UK roads.
