What has helped me is to throw or heave the club to the top of the backswing, it is back "swing". The club will pull away from the body from the velocity of the backswing and give you more width. Get a bit of speed to start the upward swing then let it coast to the top, when it starts to stop the club will feel light, that's when you start the transition into the downswing. This has also helped me get better consistency on the backswing from not guiding it back and up to the top. To get the feel get your club and without a ball just swing it back and forth in front of you, the when coming back give it a little more speed part way up and let it coast. Takes a bit to get the feel, but when you get it, you can feel a better path coming down and gives me a much looser feel. This might not help everyone, but this is what has helped me!

@bobbys4327 yes I've had exactly this in mind and tried it but for me the top of backswing position keeps changing when I do it this way and then my downswing path is also inconsistent. Maybe I need a lot more reps. For now, I'm continuing with the slower takeaway ( not placing it) but having a full deliberate pause at the top to work on my downswing sequencing
