It’s a duel, and Zoro knows better than interfere in their fight, even if Luffy wasn’t fighting back. He didn’t intervene when Usopp and Luffy fought, there’s not one single reason why he would do it right here. Stop reading with your eyes closed 😭

14:34 - Here is a small yet important detail that many views misses. Nami always used the -kun treatment with Sanji to show caring. We know that she started doing it to manipulate him so he could do what she wanted (like protecting her tangerines), but she got used to it and always called Sanji like that. In this very moment, it was the first time that Nami callled him only by "Sanji". Its how serious and hurt she was and it brings even more flavor to the scene.

Luffy's words made me think. No matter what you do, even if you think you've accomplished it by yourself, there are people behind the scenes supporting you. I think we must never forget that we have cooperation. Of course, the main premise is that you have made your own efforts. obvious. I believe that it is only through the cooperation of those around me that I am able to achieve this goal. Luffy is very strong, but he needs Sanji to become the Pirate King.

For ex sanji said things lile he didn't care about them or didn't even believe luffy could become King of pirates. Nami wasn't able to remember that he sacrificed himself for usopp and her at Skypiea, he literaly said luffy is the man who will be the king of the pirates in bege's body when she was by his side. That's disappointment for me...

Zorro told them that no matter how idiotic Luffy is, Captain should have the respect. There is no justification in acting that way on your Captain. It's not about their reason, it's the action towards their captain.

⁠Zoro unlike Nami.. would understand that Sanji is lying. Zoro knows Sanji has deep loyalty to them (thriller bark) I think If the whole crew was there present.. Robin, Brook & Zoro are the 3 person who would understand the situation and watch quietly… Franky also could potentially figure out..! But the rest are gonna be shouting and crying and torn up like Nami..! Luffy is an exception.. he always had emotional intelligence & has zero internal processing.. add that to his selfish one trackness..! He burst out at Sanji for lying and gives him an ultimatum because he wants Sanji to know that he’s there for him even if Sanji don’t want him to be..!! Thats why Luffy is.. Zoro if he was here.. would’ve even felt sympathy for Sanji internally and stood quietly.. and later would’ve helped luffy fighting the army. Infact, if Zoro was there.. Luffy wouldn’t have been the only fighter there to face Big Mom army.. and Zoro would’ve asked Luffy not to starve & would discuss abt looking for other ways to take the shitty cook back..! (While throwing insults at Sanji, ofcourse) but Zoro would’ve 100% do anything to bring the cook back to the crew.. probably would even fight Sanji’s brothers. Cuz the way I see.. Sanji sees Zoro as the brother that he couldn’t have in his real family. As Sanji grew up alone amidst his own family.. Sanji views Zoro as the brother he didnt have Zoro sees Sanji as the rival brother.. as the only rival he had was his best friend that died young.. Zoro grew up alone.. never had another friend who he considers his rival. Zoro considers Sanji a rival that doesn’t want to lose to.. but the way they behave to each other mimic brothers that bicker & argue.. belittle each other but never hate as they share mutual respect among each other. Which is evident in Wano as they face King & Queen their toughest enemy till that point.

I read the manga. When this episode released I was already way ahead in the chapters and, obviously, i already knew what happened. Even so... Even already knowing... When Luffy said " i can't be the pirate king without you" i was in tears! I was crying like if it was my first time seeing that scene. Mayumi Tanaka, Luffy's voice actress, did a amazing job putting all the emotions in this whole scene. One Piece is the best, no matter what. Oda gênio, não tem como!

Well they both are completely different cases in Usopp's case he genuinely wanted to leave the crew for merry but here in Sanji's case Luffy realises that he doesn't want to leave the crew but forced to do so.

I have always felt so weird about Sanji not wating to fight women. Chivalrous is a thing, but being stupid is different (like what happened with Kalifa, with a very strong woman beating you to a pulp and you doing nothing). So I am so glad we got that little scene with Zeff in this episode. Of course Sanji would be unable to kick a woman. It's a lesson that was learned the first time a good man called him a son.

Luffy has always acknowledged the fact that there are many things he can't do such as cooking, navigating, and lying (back in Arlong Park he was enumerating his nakama's capabilities, even saying "I can't even lie" 😂) That last line he said to Sanji means so much to both of them. Luffy saying all these things just implies how much he appreciates Sanji's existence and that there are people like them who happily accepts Sanji as he is, that he is needed, loved, and cared for contrary to what his dad has been telling and making him feel since he was born. Luffy's emotional intelligence and understanding of his nakama's true feelings is just amazing ❣️

Nami would literally go against anyone who would hurt Luffy. That's how much she respects and love him (platonically), tho it might not looks like it on a daily basis but she's like the person who's going to stay by his side no matter what happens and would always believe in him. It doesn't mean that she cares less for Sanji but it this situation she's so hurt to see Luffy like that. It's unacceptable for her. I love her even more after this episode.

Luffy may not be a genius, but when he wants to he is very intelligent when it comes to using words when it is most necessary, his speech was stronger than any attack Sanji had ever received in his life 💔 I'm very glad that you two understood everything, it really shows that you pay attention to each chapter ♡ Unfortunately there were many people who began to hate Sanji for this, and there were even those who think that if Zoro had been there he would have tried to stop him and kill him, when he and Luffy are the ones who probably know Sanji best. The only thing that would have happened is that he would have stayed out of it like in Water Seven, and in the worst case Luffy would have ordered him not to intervene just like he did with Nami (by the way, she is smart enough to have been able to understand the situation but her emotional side did not allow her to see beyond her friend's words, unlike Luffy, who is very stubborn and without realizing it he was getting into a big problem for everyone if he continued causing so much disturbance in the territory. If you give Luffy a ham sandwich, he'll free your damn country from centuries-long oppression and tyranny. If you're the actual cook on Luffy's pirate ship who feeds him every day, he will move heaven and earth to save you. I'm sure Nami's slap and Luffy's words hurt Sanji more than any beating he got from his shitty brothers, any kick he got from Zeff, or any blow he suffered from an opponent. He knows and probably trusts Luffy enough to withstand his kicks without serious injury, but it must have killed him inside to glare at Nami and turn his back on her. If Nami tried to fight him, I honestly don't know what he would've done.

everyone talking about "without you, i can't become a king of pirates" but i'm more sad about "no matter how many times you kicked me, you're the one that gets the pain" let's think about it. 1. sanji had to leave straw hats means he had to leaving their friends and straw hats probably the only friends and family that sanji have. 2.He need to join big mom's crew which mean that sanji is going to "betrayed" straw hats, and joining germa 66 after what they did to sanji😡 3. Sanji had to do all that shit just because they hold zeff (and probably baratie) hostage. 4. sanji become big mom's crew can lead him to give up his dream (don't say it doesn't that deep😡😡)

The thing about Sanji calling Luffy selfish is ironic because everything Sanji was saying were lies, but Luffy really is selfish, but he says it like it's one of Luffy's bad traits. It's one of the traits the strawhats actually admire Luffy for ironically. When Luffy wants something, he will do anything he can to get it, but normally its something selfless when he does it

It is crazy how many obstacles Luffy overcame, how many people doubted him when he said he will be king of the pirates. No matter what, he believed he will become that. Hearing him for the first time saying he can't do it in this moment is so powerful. Years of us hearing him say it and now this. It's such a good episode.

I always bawl my eyes out when luffy says he can't become pirate king without sanji. We know that NOTHING will stop Luffy from achieving his dream, simply because he won't let it stop him. But here he says it without hesitation.

I'm not sure if you know this, but in the manga Zeff doesn't lose his leg saving Sanji, he eats his leg so Sanji can have all of the food

In the anime, they stretched out Luffy vs Sanji fight so as to add more emotional value to the scene, and also to lengthen out the episode. In the manga, however, the fight ended instantly, with Sanji delivering like 5-6 kicks, and thereby, ending the duel.

Oda utilizes certain tropes so as to really slap you when something changes. Characters tend to not die in the story because when they actually do, the reader feels the weight and impact on the world and characters around that person. The same goes for certain character tropes like Luffy always saying he’s going to become the pirate king. He says it so passively that it’s almost a meme at this point. But when Luffy says without Sanji he can’t become the pirate king it really feels like a gut punch 😢
